Hello,

I saw the Baikal Artemida 45-70 double rifle on sale and wanted to get opinions from people that have them or know about them. What is your overall impression of the gun? Does the second barrel adjustment system work well?

The right bbl lacks vertical adjustment screws but you can beat on it with a hammer to slide the collar around the fixed bbl to get some adjustment. The floating bbl also has to much room to move around in the muzzle collar so I put a shim made of a pop can in there to get it to stop throwing shots high

It is more accurate than my $8000 Merkel

I love mine. With factory ammo both barrels would group less then 2" at 75 yards from the factory. I reload for more velocity. At 75 yards I have a 2.5" vertical group 1" wide. Each barrel shoots thru the same hole it printed. Light fast built like a tank. It's not pretty. The triggers aren't great. The sights suck. Over all I love mine and have taken a couple black bear with it. The regulation works very well but only horizontal not vertical. You won't be afraid to use it in the bush

Style counts.

I was eyeing this rifle as well when I wanted to get myself a 45-70. I ended up with a H&R Buffalo Rifle and it has to be my favourite hunting rifle, it feels sturdy, well built, it's accurate and it feels right in my hands.

If you cant see the sgihts - put a Dr optic type sight with a clamp on 11mm rail mount - it works very well

I bought a 11mm one piece base with set screw for the zero stop and put a 2.5x20 bsa compact scope on it holds zero and is rock solid. Very fast and doesn't effect loading or opening

+1, This is there best option for this rifle in my opinion.# Ivan Carter is using a set up like this with a qd doctor optic now....although he isn't using a Baikal rifle.# The concept is sound none the less.:)

I looked at one, thinking it would be fun to play with. I can't see the damn sights so that's the end of that. Rear is way too far back.

By a lucky coincidence, an NECG rear aperture for Rugers fits this rifle and functions perfectly, with little or no adjustment to the front sight. Quick and useful.

It does somewhat spoil the rifle's classic lines, though...:)

Lol...is it the one for the No.1?

That's the one. It has a small projecting lug on the bottom, which is supposed to go into the vertical divot on the Ruger receiver at each ring location. The lug isn't semicircular like the Ruger divot...it's just a little rectangular projection that also fits nicely into the single small cut-out spot on the Baikal rib. Works beautifully.

Contrary to the old saying, the mother of invention is NOT necessity...it's actually the combination of cheapness and a 45-year accumulation of assorted bits'n'pieces of gun-related junk. :)

Sh*te. That's what I think. No one has figured out how to build a cheap double rifle that is worth owning. Hell, they can't even put together a decent double shotgun despite a gigahillion dollars worth of CNC machinery.
