Found a cooey!

As suggested the Cooeys marked repeating .22 are predecessors to the model 60. MAde between '31 and '39. One change was the stock shape...many of the original stocks are splintered. Another is that most 60's are drilled and tapped for a sidemount scope.

Yours still has the trigger guard! A model 60 stock will certainly fit, but may need a touch of material removed to allow for the mag-tube to slide freely. They are of a slightly different shape, but more robust.

Original (splintered, but held together with tape) stock shape:

Later 60 stock (see palm swell/pistol grip area for differences)

A very good score to find in a basement! Clean it up, slap some lumber on it, and have some fun!

Not too bad.... some fine sandpaper, a brass wire wheel, and some brake cleaner took care of years of rust and dirt. Lots of minor pitting on the barrel and trigger guard. Its as good as it is going to get. next up is to reblue it. I kind of got sidetracked on refinishing another .22 thats complete (a lakefield mk2)....

For those who have been around for 1/2 a century, the name Cooey was a household name. Glad to read that there are members here who can offer assistance on clarifying some information about the ole repeater...!
