As per my thread in the general area, I'm trying to help a friend value and maybe dispose of some guns. A couple of them are 12.6 prohibited and I'd like to get an idea of what they are worth, or any information that will help.

First of all, just to confirm, are they transferable to another 12.6 holder? From the information gathered in my first thread, I believe so. No one in the family is interested, and they won't adopt me, so I've convinced the son that it would be better to find a new home for them rather than turn them in for destruction.

Sorry for the quality of the photos. Bores look good from what I could tell with a quick look.

Once we determine a value, we`ll have the owner make an account and advertise them.

First is a Colt Police Positive chambered in .32 Police Ctg with a 4in barrel

Second one is a Colt Automatic chambered in .32 Colt Automatic Rimless, with a 3.75 in barrel. I don`t see another model name.

Thanks guys. Is there anywhere that one can get an idea of prices on old ammo as well? I found one US site that has some listed for sale, but not sure how prices would compare to Canada. Would packaging ammo with the handguns help sell them on EE, or list it separately?

Personally I would list the ammo seperate, it is collectable in its own right. The problem with selling the ammo is shipping, Canada Post will not ship ammunition.
A friend of mine has a 12/6(lucky SOB) and he got a .32 Colt auto awhile back almost mint for $150. If you look up the same vintage pistol on some of the American sites value is six or seven times that. The market of people legally allowed to own them is very small so the prices suck if you're a seller but not so much if you can buy one.

List them on EE for the prices I suggested and add "or best offer". Accept whatever best offer you get. It is important that these fine old guns find a good loving home, rather than getting chopped up and smelted.

Doing some reading of the RCMP site and indicates that....

Restricted or prohibited firearms must be verified by an approved verifier if they are being transferred to a new owner and have not been previously verified. A provincial or territorial Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) must approve all transfers of restricted and prohibited firearms. Individuals may contact the CFP for more information on this process or for help to verify a firearm.

These handguns were acquired by the present owner back in 1974. What are the chances that they will have to be verified before transferring to a new owner? And if so, what does this entail?

If these pistols are currently registered they don't need to be verified. All he needs to do is sell them, start the transfer over the phone, and arrange for pick-up or shipping. It's easy. Probably easier than taking them in for destruction and a MUCH better option. These are great old guns but age discrimination has made it impossible for most of us to own them.

Good luck!

Oh the double whammy on both of them, barrel shorter than what some idiots figured was too short and .32 caliber, the target of the same batch of idiots.

Those Colt Pistols really do it for me, I'd like to have a chromed one in a coat pocket on each side.

You're not helping :( lol. If he deems not worth the effort, he said he'll just turn them in. Thanks for the comments.

Just giving you the low end of the scale.

I've bought about twenty prohibs since C68, I'm thinking of dumping them. Unless they are collector pieces they aren't worth very much.
