First handgun: S&W M&P .22 or SIG P226 .22????

Probably already know this, but get the p226 in 22lr then later add the 9 mm conversion, cheaper than the p226 in 9 first, I know , I just bought a p226 enhanced elite in 9 mm, and added the conversion to 22 lr, much more costly my way. Love the pistol as does the wife, so 22 is a good choice.

S&w mp 22

I just got a new S&W M&P 22 and it functions well with a bunch of different ammo - I am surprised how decent the trigger is too for a Cheaper cost pistol ! Sure is light . Overall i am Happy with my new Smith ! RJ

I researched the sh*t out of .22 semi's before I bought my first pistol. I settled on the S&W M&P .22 and am very pleased with it's performance.

I had a few issues, not critical, the sights were a little hard for my old eyes so I put on a set of Williams Firesights and it seems to choke a lot on Winchester X22 bulk ammo for some reason. It eats CCI Blazer's like crazy! The magazines, as mentioned are hard to find. I got lucky and ordered 2 extra with my pistol. You can get them on eBay but pay a premium for them. I've had 4 or 5 buddies try it, including my firearms instructor and three have bought it. That's a pretty good endorsement I think.

i have shot both pistol and to be honest i like them both, only difference is if u get sig, get E2 GRIP,and you can also swap the slide and barrel for what ever caliber you want,,one frame two guns,,cant do that with smith,

I can only speak on the M&P22 & 9mm as I own both. I spent time looking & handling various models of .22 pistols and came to the decision of the S&W MP. I liked the feel and the gun is very easy to take apart for cleaning etc. About 6 months later I purchased the S&W MP 9mm range kit and it fits my hand identically like my .22. The 9mm disassembles a lot differently than the .22 version. IMHO the pricing for the M&P Series is very reasonable and getting the range kit the holster works with the .22. Ultimately its your decision which way you go.

I started out with the Sig P226 Classic (.22LR) with the beavertail. After about 6 months, I bought the 9mm conversion kit. Total price was under $1000, tax in, shipped. Prices have gone up a bit since then but it's still the best deal to buy them in that order.

The Sig is a bit finicky on ammo, has some FTF on the cheap Blazer round nose, runs the Federal 525 pack stuff ok.

Also, the 9mm kit comes with the SigLite (tritium) night sights as a no-cost bonus.
