Second gun choice...

Sort of been asked a few times but looking for opinions. I have a new gun (Yay, 725 Sporting) but am considering a new shotty for taking out to the woods for fun while camping (safely) with a secondary notion of safety while on multi-day hikes (yes, other bear options first). I want something resilient and on the lighter side, but still a longer barrel (min 26) so I can still lend to a buddy for busting clays. Don't really care wood or synthetic (but no 887, don't like'em). I've considered the 500, 870, PA-08, SA-08, etc. Mostly haven't considered semi-autos otherwise as they seem a little pricey for a secondary gun (and my wife still thinks I'm crazy with the 725), but I like don't mind the idea of a semi-auto. Any thoughts? Also I shoot LH so a neutral/minimal cast is ideal.

Cheers

If you dont want to break the bank go with the old faith fulls Remington 870 or a Mossberg 590 or a Browning BPS if you want to buy a good semi your lookin at 1200+

I'm pretty sure one of the Mossberb combos might work for you. Some of the ones I've seen come with a short and long barrel that you could swap out for the skeet shooting.

Actually you can get a great semi for much less i.e. Baikal MP153 or MP155, Browning Silver Hunter, Beretta A300, Weatherby SA-08.

Winchester SXP Combo is a great value with the second barrel and around $620.00, love mine

I'd be looking at a Maverick or Mossberg combo.

I'm currently carrying a Mossberg 500 with a 18.5" barrel from a Maverick.

I went the other way :) I have a mossberg 500 from the 70s that came with the 18.5 cylinder bore barrel. Bought a takeoff 28" vent ribbed from a maverick to hunt with :)

I stand by my comment if you want a good semi auto shot gun your gonna have to spend 1200 on a versamaxx or m2 and you'll probable need closer to 1500
