I've read a few threads on this and can't find a good answer. I have a csa vz58 coming in the mail and I would like to get both the ambi mag release and bolt release. Which 2 work together with the least issues?

I've got one coming in the mail as well. So far it seems like those sold at Corwin Arms (mag release only), Wolverine or Zahal are the most readily available. Wolverine currently has both on sale for $100.
From what I can tell, all may require some fitment to work properly.

My main issue right now is whether or not to get the BC Tactical hand guard...it looks so bada**...

The bc tactical magazine release isn't ambi though. So looks like my only choice is zahal or corwin arms?

Corwin is the cheaper of the two (before shipping, not sure what Zahal charges) but they no longer carry the tactical bolt release. Shipping is usually around $14 with Corwin.

Pretty sure for those little envelope sized parts you're under $10 for shipping, but it doesn't hurt to ask!

You can see them both working together here: (click for big)

I got mine from Zahal, but I'm biased ;)

The reason we discontinued Tactical Bolt releases was that they would work no problem with CZ 858 failure rate was below 1% however in Czech Small Arms VZ 58 they were a major headache. 90% of our warranty calls for tactical bolt releases were for CSA vz 58 rifles.
We do highly recommend Ambi Mag releases but Tactical Bolt release is a different story for CSA vz 58

Do you mean all bolt releases won't work on the csa? Or just that brand that you guys sold? That would suck :( I hope I can find a bot release that works. I will definitely get the ambi magazine release from you guys. I've heard nothing but great things dealing with corwin-arms.

There is three types of bolt releases made in Czech Republic. One we sold was advertised as universal should work in both CZ 858 and CSA vz 58 bit it was preforming well in CZ 858 and it is performance in CSA rifles was not the best, medium at best. The other two types are made by the same manufacturer and he explicitly warns that they will not work in CSA vz. 58. There is a bolt release that was developed for Czech army in early 2000s it is totally military grade failure rate is only 0.03%. This thing will work but its locking pin is made out of titanium. We investigated the cost of the unit but it was prohibitive price would have to be at around $200 each. This one would work on any VZ 58 rifle in any conditions of use

This is why we decided to drop altogether all types of bolt releases for VZ 58 from our store

BC tactical said there bolt release will work in the csa but the mag release won't. So it's looks like I'm getting an ambi mag release from crowin and a bolt release from BCtactical.

Another option is the Dlask mag release and Corwin bolt release.

I had one small fitting issue with my Corwin bolt release on my CSA. I have fired it yet but the fit and function seems perfect with snap caps and dryfire/reload drills.

The only mod I needed to do was to reduce the diameter of the new pin. I needed to remove .002" which doesn't seem like much but it kept the pin from fitting in my CSA. I used a corded drill and sandpaper, was a 10 minute fix. Sand some test fit, sand some test fit, and repeat.

The CSA guns are just enough out of spec from the other 858 guns that some parts do need some fitting.

Corwin might have some of the on sale bolt release parts left if you are lucky. Any fitting I have encountered so far can be done with simple tools.

I am pretty sure the 'boat has been missed" on the Corwin Arms bolt release as in the previous posts. I received 2 bolt releases from Corwin (yay) but they stressed there has been some problems with the product. I ground down some of the steel from mine, installed it and finally got out today. Nuts. it broke on the 3rd mag. So I am going to hunt down how to case harden the piece after I grind it down to fit. Here's hoping it works a wee bit longer. I don't blame Corwin but will probably end up looking for something again in the near future.

I got the bolt release on sale and I am trying to decide if i should try to make it work in my CSA or not. Could anybody who has done some fitting with these post details. G.Mitchell did you sand down the whole of the main vertical piece? How did that make a difference? I installed the release, took me less than a minute. It doesn't seem too tight, it moves freely, but with the bolt against it, it refuses to budge. I would be very grateful for advice.

Had to do lots of sanding and filing on my bc tactical mag and bolt release for my csa vz58 compact.
After fitment problem was solved I found that using the spring from a cz858, and some grease made it work flawless.
Pain in the a$$, but worth every penny.

Iv had zero issue with my bolt release from corwin arms
On my csa rifle, took a bit to work it in but now it works great.
Little tap with the finger bolt slams forward every time.
Drop of oil goes in there every cleaning .

Cheers

Great, so the bolt release I bought from you back about two months ago for my CSA VZ 58 (and I spoke to you on the phone about it, but was never informed of this) is probably no good. Perfect.

Are you trying to release the bolt on an empty mag? Mag with a round in it? Or no mag and bolt locked back?

If you're trying with a mag in the gun that's empty you'll likely never get it to release since you're dealing with the mag spring still pushing up on the bolt hold open. Try with no mag and see if that's any easier.

I used some Froglube on the bolt release and in the hole where the release moves.

Is yours moving freely up and down?
