Second World War soldier reunited with helmet after 70 years

Great story. I love reading stuff like this.

+1. I read a story last year about a german pilot who escorted an allied bomber back to uk airspace after a battle and they met many years later.

The stories of valor from that time period really touch me and it makes me so proud that so many still understand how important those men and women are and are willing to go to such lengths to recognize them.

"A Higher Calling",....the name of the painting depicting the BF-109 just off the port side of a very badly shot up B-17 as he(Stigler) salutes to the 17's crew and turns back for home

Interesting story......I wonder what path the helmet had taken over the 70 years before being reunited with the orginial owner......the stories it could tell.....

But..but.. What about my goat?

NOT nice to call SMELLIE names! Admittedly, I have observed him chewing on a tin can when he sees another "check the headspace" reply to a post, but I do not think he is really an "old goat." On the other hand, who knows what lies behind all that facial hair, so you might even have a valid point.
