M305 Mags in M1A

No will not work ever ever ever

Just joking surprisingly the Chinese m14 mags are very high quality on par with military contract mags they should work just fine in your m1a dont buy them all im planning on getting some soon once I get paid at the end of the month fingers crossed they still have stock
 
My Norinco mags work in my Springfield, but my Springfield mags don't work in my Norinco !
Having said that though, I was wondering if anybody has bought replacement followers and springs for their Norinco mags and is their an increase in function / quality?
 
Marstar's mags are apparently not US-made, but not China-made either. That's all they were able to tell me on the country of origin. I bought only one to test it.

On reception, I compared it to my SAinc mag. It's lips were bent wrong and rounds wouldn't slide out properly. I had to re-bend them and it was easy, which means the metal isn't treated as it should. Second issue, with 1 to 4 rounds, the mag worked correctly but with the 5th round in, it wouldn't lock in my rifle because it was pinned at 5 instead of 5.5. I had to open the mag and cut a dent in the follower so it would sit to 5.5.

Quite a crappy product for the price. I'll never buy again from them.
 
Northern Republic has magazines. V.Good quality - same as Chinese that come with Norcs which, as someone already said, are excellent and one par with USGI

How long ago was this?

I bought 6 mags from them recently and they work excellently. Metal appeared properly heat treated too.
 
Dlask Arms has US made Checkmate Industries magazines for not much more than cheap mags. M14 mags are so overpriced even for the cheap stuff IMO, you may as well pay a little more and get the good stuff.
 
A lot of stuff SA Inc passes off as American made is not. Brazil, I think. No heat treated parts in a magazine either. Mostly stamped.
 
Good friend of mine in the US seeks out Polytech mags that were imported before their ban on Chinese firearms because in his experience, they're excellent. He of course shoots an M1A.

can vouch that checkmate makes nice mags... at least nice 1911 mags. think they're one of Colt's suppliers.

I do the same thing. Poly Tech mags that were imported into the USA are excellent.

They fit and function in my Poly Tech receivers just as well as C.M.I. and USGI mags.

Wrong!
The followers are definitely heat treated on USGI mags, I tried to straighten a follower that had a bent tail and it broke off. The magazine bodies on USGI and Checkmate mags are heat treated also.
I agree that SA inc. tries to hide behind the oldest name in US firearms as a marketing ploy, but the truth is most of their M1A parts come from Wayne machine in Taiwan and another firm in Korea. The parts on a new SA inc. are pretty much junk for the most part. Their 1911 frames were made in Brazil at one time and the M1A receivers are cast in Canada.
There are a lot of Korean made M14 mags that are floating around the USA right now that are garbage and not heat treated properly and not worth waiting your $ on. Chinese made mags that I have, are on par with USGI and are of very good quality ,as are the Checkmate made mags.

I figured he wouldn't have been the only one. Are they overpriced down there, or are they sort of a hidden treasure nobody is aware of?

Well, I ended up buying 2 KCI mags at Epps for 28 bucks each. Saving 12 bucks plus shipping made that decision easier. They look identical except the rear of the follower looks a tad different. Snapped in to the M1A perfectly and easy.

Some have said Korean KCI is junk, so we will see. The follower moves a little rougher then the SA.
 
Seems like the magazines for these rifles is becoming as much of a tragedy as the origin of the parts manufacturing for the rifles themselves. A M-14 was built to drawings and heat treated to milspec and made in the United states of America between late fifties and early 1960's, we know that. My M14s rifle was made in china along with its magazines, I know that

As to the rest of the story,..it's anyone's guess.

If you end up with any of those new black coloured mags with a rivet in the side, be warned you may need a properly built dimensional mag as a template to correct your new ones to.
