Can it be installed? If so, can the friction be reduced? Also anyone know where to get one? SKSman sells the safety spring, but I think its original, maybe that will work?...the 1950 trigger assembly is missing several parts that the later production SKS's have, I was wondering if that was to do with spring safety.

just wondering, cause I much prefer the spring safety on my '54 Izzy...though my '50 Tula is non-refurb, if I ever decide to shoot it, I would like to have a spring safety...

You might have to get a whole new lever too. The fulcrum that rubs against the spring might be rounded, as was with my '53 Izzy with an early trigger group.

You can get a Murray's firing pin with spring for any Russian SKS that doesn't have a sprung firing pin. I popped a pin out of my '54 Tula bolt, cleaned the hole thoroughly, sprayed some Rem Dry lube in there, put the Murray's pin in there, and replaced the retaining pin. All of ten minutes. The stainless Murray's firing pin is too soft for extended use with that cheap corrosive surplus ammo with the hard primers. You'll need to shoot modern non corrosive ammo.

Sounds like an excellent reason not to use the Murray's pin to me... Not trolling. But if the pin is too soft for hard primed ammo, then it's too soft to last in the long haul, period.

you added a spring to your 53?

Yes, to the safety. It was an early pattern '53 before they changed to the trigger group to the rebound release and spring safety catch pattern.

The OP is refuting to the safety catch spring, not the firing pin. Read the original post before you assume the original question.

1950's come with a sprung firing pin from factory...I was asking about the safety spring.

Thanks for the info, BeaverMeat...Do you know what I mean about the "extra stuff" in the later trigger groups? are those parts needed? i'll take pics, and post them.

i had a murrays spring and firing pin. broke it once, they warranted it. broke the next one. put the original back in... no issues. and about 4000 rounds deep.

That is the "rebound disconnector". It keeps the tigger bar from contacting the sear when the bolt is open (when the disconnector is disengaged) lol, many someone else can explain it better.

It is almost like people read "Murry's" and "spring" and immediately assume that you are referring to the aftermarket spring load firing pin for the SKS.

mind boggling

yeah, maybe...I wasn't really sure what that was...I looked closer at it, as I thought it was partially responsible for retaining the safety spring, but that's not the case...here's a picture I took of them side by side. I'm not trying to insult you, this more for other readers: top is a 1954 Izzy with spring safety (camera flash uncovered some minor corrosion ), bottom is a 1950 Tula with friction safety (cosmo, not corrosion :)). The 54 has those 2 bars with the shark fin looking part near the hammer...

Yeah, I'm surprised it wasn't picked up the first time...oh well, lol
