I'm wondering what you all think the best 25+ round mags for a Ruger 10/22 are. I've heard the BX-25 is supposed to be but last I heard we can't have them since it's a "pistol mag.' I'm particularly interested in 50 & 110 round drum experiences.

I can't speak to the drums, but the Butler Creek 25 rounders have become my favourite. Just make sure to get the STEEL LIPS if you do. And expect a few jams the first couple times you use them. But after you break them in a bit, they'll run flawlessly every time.

I have the HC3R mags and so far they have worked flawlessly. They are a bit pricy ($42 - $45), but the functionality and design are well worth it in my opinion. Here is a link to their website. Also Wanstalls has these in stock and my first ordering experience with them for an after market barrel and stock has been very positive.

If you buy them from Wholesale, make sure you buy them on the west side of the store. The ones on the east side (10 feet away) are $10 more. I think Barton's and PrimeTime have the same prices as WSS. They often need a little filing on the feed lips, then load them up with 25 rds and let them sit for a few days to set the spring. This will prevent an FTF where the rim of the cartridge being stripped digs into the bullet below it and stops. Do this when they're brand new and if they've been sitting empty for a few months. And don't forget to grab a BC mag loader. Life makes sense when you own one.

G1 - I like how there's a warning, but the post is quoted, so now that he's removed his post, it's still quoted.

He's a newb with 6 posts. So I'd assume he's american or working for the feds fishing. Or, he could've bought some off the shelf at Bass Pro before the big mix-up and doesn't know what he has, if he actually has them, as it is the internet and not a "sworn statement"

The black mags I have where used when I aquired them. Upon closer inspection, they are not the ones described earlier.

There's only two mags worth bothering with: Butler Creek steel lips for regular banana mags, and if you're after a drum, a GSG 110 rd (but you gotta use the right ammo with it, nothing with a lot of wax; I use stingers in it). I've purchased a good 90% of the different mag styles/makes/models available on the market to try and find something reliable and these came the closest to the stock 10rd Ruger mag in terms of reliability. I had a BX25 before it became prohib; it was a good - great - mag, but still not as reliable as the Butler Creeks. As always, YMMV.

I have yet to get my hands on the tear-drop magazine like one of these, though: http://www.mwgco.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/50rnd.gif

I assume the fact that I installed Volquartsen extractors at the same time I got my GSG drum mag may have something to do with the great performance I'm getting out if it. I've heard a lot of hate for the GSG 110 round mag.

No problem with the butler creek 25 rounds stell lips here. I get maybe one ftf per 8-9 mags.

I brought a lot of new shooters with me and most of them had some ftf with my mags and 10/22 combo. I always assumed they were touching to make wich would make it ftf.
