Umarex UZI bb CO2 pistol...need opinions.. broke down,bought a steel force

There are actually many "professional" and big time hunters who use pellet (or BB guns) to practice/hone their skills in the off season. It still teaches you breathing technique, trigger squeeze, holding, patience, etc.
 
I picked up the umarex steel storm yesterday. Easy to load and filled a bunch of snowbanks with bbs already. Seem decently accurate. GF sure thinks it neat also. Not too bad on the CO2 cartridges but it seems to not function that well at -15c. Once it warms up it goes like crazy. Seems well built and the smile factor is high. Reminds me of shooting the red star at the fairgrounds.

$150 or $200 is a gouging price for a Uramex, they retail for under $100 (~$79-$94). You should take a look at the Baikal Blackbird, more money but so much better and lots of after market support.

I have a .177 mini Uzi from cybergun and it is great fun! Over 2000 bb's through it and no problems. I get about 2 full power magazines out of it before noticing a drop in power. A third magazine and you start to notice weaker shots and less accuracy. I find mine fairly accurate at 30' in semi auto. Great for shooting cans. If you don't have one pick one up.

I bought the BB UZI from Cabelas and I wasn't impressed with how the mags leaked the CO2 so I returned it. The steel storm is a nice little gun and I have one but it does not compare to my Drozd Blackbird. The Blackbirds are kind of pricey but the quality and fun factor is well worth it. There is no cheap pot metal in the Blackbird.

I noticed this with My Tau-7 when I had it, course I never shot it in winter but even in summer it would freeze up and lose a lot of efficiency.

I have heard C02 guns work a lot better in tropical climes (more muzzle velocity & energy to an extent).

Someone should come up with a little portable electric blanket for C02 guns to keep them working at higher efficiency.

C02 loses efficiency at lower temps, then the gun freezes up internally as well. Double whammy.

So here is a rundown as over xmas time I bought the steel force and the UZI..The UZI is great fun. All steel construction,cept for the grip and foreend. Accuracy ..I can keep all shots in a 1 inch target at 8 metres all day long.C02 usage isn't as bad as I thought it would be.Even with the blowback feature on it,they last a long time,The steel force...well is more accurate. I mounted a LER scope on it and had fun..the 6 shot burst is fun to play with,accuracy is better then the uzi,The stock extends and locks up strong where the uzi stock has a wobble in it.

In all honesty...both are fun to play with on cold winter nights! They each have there downfalls,but for under 200 bucks..I can live with it.For fun factor its the uzi with open sights...for more serious stuff its the force with forward mounted ler scope.

This one is the non-blowback version but on the plus side the Umarex has been chronyd at about 410-430 fps with steel bbs. It comes completely black and looked too toy-like, looks more realistic now. Plan on a Umarex Mini-Uzi next, apparently you need to do some kind of mod before you can shoot it full auto :confused:

Regarding the Umarex Mini-Uzi, replicaairguns.ca has a video showing the piece of plastic that has to come out for F/A capability. As another poster mentioned, these are mostly steel and very nice/solid construction. I found a couple of additional mags at Amazon.ca of all places - they weren't listed correctly and I only stumbled across them by googling the part number for the mag.

Anything made by Uramax is a POS, I have own a couple of them, and they're grossly under powered, and extremely cheap made. All 3 of my bb pistols are made by Crossman, and all three of them are at least 480 to 495 FPS, and all of them are under $100.

I have shot about 2 to 3000 bbs out of the pair of them....so far no hiccups...Its like anything made now adays,pays your money and take your chances!! That was shot in 2 months or so...So far I am a happy camper!!

I'll stick with my Pellet Rifles. Gamo Delta 495 fps, is about 10 yrs old, and has had probably 10,000 pellets through it. Chinese (Princess Auto) Pallet Rifle (said on box 495fps, but feels MUCH stronger), lead pellets from 50ft go through 1/4" plywood, where as my Gamo Delta the pellets bury themself in or bounce off the same plywood.

and last my Gamo Hornet 1000 FPS with lead / 1200 FPS with PBA.

Then may I make a suggestion?? I am only saying from my experiences with Umarex products...Yes I asked for opinions,but my mileage differs from yours. I am happy with what I have bought,I am totally upfront and honest with my experiences with them.... This thread was started on the umarex uzi and such. ...Its ppl buying and using Umarex products that are talking about them.If you want to bash umarex products,please start your own thread...don't do it in mine!!!
