..how ought I dress when I'm shooting on a CF base?

I ask because it's my understanding our lads & ladies in cadpat don't dig wannabes. I don't have any cadpat, but I have purchased some nice cold-weather goretex OD green surplus winter pants. I just don't want to piss anyone in the forces off.

Be yourself, dress warm, and enjoy yourself. If asked, be honest and give your opinion of the gear youre wearing, cause they have an opinion. If youre respectful of them, they will be of you......just like any other range.

You can wear whatever you want, it's a free country.

That being said though, if you're concerned with what military members think about you on a CF base, stay away from the knock off current CADPAT.

I wouldn't see anyone really caring about the older OD kit, it's great gear and it's cheap to buy.

I personally couldn't care less what anyone wears. I wear old OD gear from years ago when I shoot on my own time because it's warm rugged kit and it's dirt cheap lol

But there are douches who would think less of you as a human being for wearing it and not being in the forces for whatever reason it makes them feel less special.

dress normal , try to stay away from mixed dress, miltary cant mix miltary clothing, only issue would be if you look like a member and someone checks you on it, i remember when on exercise in states, my friend wore jeans with bottoms cut to length,no seams, needless to say we got checked, once they realized we were from canada, the issue resolved.

Head to toe multicam or kryptex... ;)

Yeah, be warm.... I am CF and would not judge anyone for wearing OD kit. (I still like mine better than the ICE cadpat stuff)

The best option is to ask the Military Police at the gate to the overall military base. As a contractor that works on a military base I am expressly forbidden from wearing any military gear on base at anytime, either there as a contractor or there as a civilian to use their range. The MPs would give the definitive answer.

For myself personally (read: my opinion) as long as there is no official problem then I would not be concerned about what a CF member felt: wear what works for you to complete your sporting activity while dressing for the elements.

Realistically, wear what works for the sport and what you can get the best bang for the buck while it does the job. I'll be showing up in a mix of OD, desert camo, police black and regular athletic wear, depending on the conditions.

:rolleyes::jerkit:
What's that saying about Opinions are like as$holes? ...I would think the OP would want to make either a positive or at least neutral impression on his hosts, and maybe to align with what's in the QR&Os. If one is a civilian entering onto military property, it seems prudent and appropriate to where civilian clothing and not mix it with military kit - be it current or former issue. There are some people that care about first and lasting impressions, the OP perhaps being one based on the question in his post. Others may not 'give a sh!t' - that's ok too, I guess...
