I'm going to install a barrel band swivel stud on my CZ 550 American safari. Im wondering if I could get some advice on removing the front sight. It Looks to me it is soldered on, so I will have to apply some heat to melt the solder. Im wondering if anyone has done this and if so any advice would be great.

Thanks!

They are soldered with fairly soft solder. A cheap propane torch is plenty.

The spring and plunger aren't captured by anything so be ready when you slide the sight off.

Before you do it, shoot the gun. This is your chance to correct windage and have your rear sight mechanically centered. If it's good, punch a match mark, if not, fix it.

Loctite bushing adhesive works good to put it back on.

Bit of a hi-jack here.

So there's no cross pin as found on old Brnos?

You are correct there is a cross pin, I think the last one is fooled with was seized up or boogered so I pulled it off as an assembly. The part I remember most clearly was crawling around searching for the spring

Another question. Can you tell me if NECG CZ front sight bead insert will fit the front sight on a Brno ZG47?

Hey thanks for the replies. I read horror stories about guys heating the front sight till its red hot and it still would not budge. Im going to remove the roll pin that retains the plunger and spring, before I heat it up.

Will the heat change the blued finish? And when installing the band will the blue do anything to the solder? Or do I just do the usual sand the small area under the band, and then just solder normaly?
Im also wanting to install NECG sights and a band on my Winchester M70.

Some interesting information in this thread.
