Just curious if anyone has ever hunted in the Yukon, and if so how was it? Also would like to know, since the Yukon is part of Canada, if someone from Ontario can hunt on crown land. If not, is it easy to find a guide(not an outfitter) to show you around? Reading up a little bit on the Yukon kind of intrigues me. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hunted in the Yukon for the last 13 years. There are a lot of outfitters up here, as well there is a special guide license that you can get for non resident friends. Every time we have hunted here, 95% success rate every time :)

If your not a resident you will need to hire a guide or know some one willing to host you. I believe it's first come for getting a permit to host a Canadian res. then your limited to moose caribou black bears and wolf. Sheep goats and grizzly a are out unless you hire an outfitter.

I spent three season riding around the central Yukon guiding and think about those days all the time. Seeing and hunting the Yukon is a must do in my books.

the line up this year the 1st of April will be interesting. last year for first come first serve: next year a draw system will come.

and next year special guiding will work for bison too.

Does anyone know a gyide or someone willing to host? Looking at some outfitters can cost up to $20000. That definately isn't in the budget.

a special guiding license is supposed to be to guide friends so make friends over here then it will be simple. nobody will do that from internet for sure ....

What I wouldn't give to pack up my family and move to the Yukon!

There is a saying here about the term "Sourdough" which you are after your first winter here, Sour on the Yukon and not enough Dough to leave.....

I have seen people leave only to come back a few years later, its a nice place to live, fresh clean air and great scenery and if being in the outdoors is your thing, then this is one of the best places to do that.

What specifically would you like to know about hunting in the Yukon? I spent the past 35 years there hunting every year, taken all the species the Yukon has to offer several times over. Here's some photos of what is available to hunt there, and my advice is to move there and then it is cheap and easy with a 150 day hunting season on some game and 90 on the rest.

Stone sheep

Moose

Mountain caribou

Endless black bears

A few wolves

Thanks for the pics. Those are awesome. I guess what I'm looking for is someone like you to hunt with......lol. The only thing I don't want to do is hire an outfitter. I'd like to rent a cabin on my own and hire a guide and do real hunting!

You can't just hire a guide in the Yukon. You have to go through a registered outfitter to be guided or you can go with a host.
