I am seriously contemplating the purchase of one of these compact shot guns for sled/quad carry for aggressive wild life defense in case of breakdown on the trail. I'm hearing mixed opinions on this tool for that purpose! More bad than good, for some reason! I heard that no steel shot should be put through them, but lead shot only. Can anyone offer an opinion on these compact shot guns for my purpose? Thank you in advance for your reply.

You would be better served by a short barreled mossberg pump 500. Much more reliable and way better built. Dominion arms are noveltys at best. I wouldn't trust a round of skeet to one let alone my life

for that application maybe consider a short single (not a junker)
they always go bang when you squeeze the trigger
with a recoil pad put on it and a cut barrel it will work well with a variety of loads for defense and hunting or signaling
and can be taken apart and stored taking very little space
or a pump shortened pump I wouldn't recommend a pistol grip unless you practice lots they are harder and less natural to aim than a shoulder fired gun
a stoger would maybe be a better choice little bit better quality but heavier than a pump or single
make shure you keep it legal and your good to go

I shortened the wood stock on my 870 12 gauge so it comes to the shoulder more smoothly when I've got a hunting jacket on, etc...so it already has a shorter buttstock. For protection and to carry in the quad box I got a 14" open choke barrel from Dlask Arms on Annacis Island, New Westminster...cost was $300 and I ordered mine in 14" with a brass bead front sight instead of a blade. This lets me see a grouse on the trail so I can shoot it in season, and the short barrel makes it fit in my rear quad box easily, as well as my back pack. Dlask also sells the 870 barrels in 12" and 8.5" barrels if close range self defence is the only purpose you want it for...but I chose 14" with bead so you can still aim properly at a small target. The 870 ALWAYS fires...if it's your life would you want to trust it to a Chinese commie made gun?

I have an Outlaw, it works well. I have shot skeet with it and hit in the 15-16 range. It has never failed to fire. I put fibre optic turkey sights on it to keep my head down. That helped lots with buck or slugs. All that being said, if i was in need of a life saver I would use my 870 with a 14" barrel. The extra shot is good security. As far as steel goes, you want to shoot lead buck and slugs.

It would work fantastic.

I carried my 14" & 18.5" 870 12 gauge shotguns for years but I also carried my single shot 22" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 45-70.

I now have a Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 and a very special shortened to 21" Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM that are my bush guns.

This last fall I purchased a 14" T/C Contender carbine barrel in 45-70 = I will be packing this super short single shot loaded with 425gr hard cast WLNGC combo this year.

No I have no issues carrying a single shot for wild animal defence a SXS shotgun will totally work for you its not like your going to get more than 2 shots off in a charge situation anyway.
