NEW ANTIQUE FRT CHANGES and Addendum to altered cartridges handguns

Dingus, Loki, other members please edit, add to, delete parts or tweak this email where you see necessary. I want to send this out to Provincial CFO, my MP, the minister of safety, and anyone else you can think of.
(PS dingus I plagurized a lot of your initial post) Typos will be fixed, I did this on my iphone and spell check wasnt working.

I am a law abiding Canadian gun owner, firearms business owner, and supporter of the CPC.

It has been brought to my attention that the RCMP/CFC have made an Addendum to the Altered Centerfire Antique Handguns policy at the same time the FRT changes for the Swiss Arms family of rifles went into effect.

The new addendum says that an antique handgun must be built in an antique cartridge to start with. The handgun must have started life in a prescribed antique caliber or the RCMP/CFC will not grant the firearm in question its proper legal antique status. This is completely contrary to both the law and and the RCMP/CFC's previous precedent of granting antique status letters to firearms that were previously restricted under the law based on caliber (and not age). This means that guns that were built before 1897 and were converted to an antique status caliber are now no longer considered prescribed antique firearms by the RCMP/CFC (unless the handguns were in an antique caliber originally and changed to another antique caliber). Essentially this means the RCMP/CFC will no longer de-register restricted firearms or issue antique letters to handguns that made the antique firearm age requirement and were then converted to an antique caliber. How can the RCMP essentially change the law (SOR/98-464) overnight by arbitrarily changing their policy regarding antique firearms? How can the RCMP/CFC throw out close to a decade of precedent that they themselves set? This decision has overnight damaged law abiding business's and devalued law abiding antique gun owners collections substantially while at the same time delving into a legal quagmire. I thank you in advance for your time looking into this matter and look forward to your reply.

Looks good to me well wrote better than i did. I sent off something simlar and got a caned responce from my MP which did not surprise me.
my guess is everyone will get this same repeated responce or something simlar.
I know because i talked about Antiques in my email i sent and when you read the responce i got it only mentions them swiss arms SA rifles nothing about antiques.
I will post the reply i got from my MP so you can see what reply you get back.
I think the MPs are just sending out the same replys to all of us. its maby even all done by computor.
Im gona keep at it tho .

When i emailed my MP John Duncan 7 years ago or so when i had two guns seized he phoned me and helped get them outa customs but that was then this is now. im not impressed.

I still think people should send in emails letters but im not happy with the reply i got.
I will add it to this post in abit just have to copy and paste it .

Heres the reply i got to a longer letter than yours with way more details ,,,

OTTAWA

Thank you for your e-mail and for sharing your concerns about the reclassification of the Swiss Arms Classic Green rifle.

We are looking into this matter on an urgent basis.

Our government does not support placing needless red tape on law-abiding hunters, farmers and sport shooters which is why we took action to eliminate the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry to stop the targeting of law-abiding firearms owners.

Minister Blaney will take appropriate action to ensure that firearms owners who acted in good faith are not penalized as a result of the actions of others.

Sincerely,

John Duncan, PC, MP

This effects more than just Colts, any antique that started life as a caliber on the non antique caliber list is effected. All antique owners need to unite and stand together. It's not just the Colt's that are effected with this change in policy.

There is so much information coming in right now that it's difficult to compile, but I will be writing a letter template with allowance for public use for this issue as well.

Anyone else get a "call today" ?

"good thing I sold all mine last month :p"

O Crap...

If an owner or previous owner of an antique gets this call do not speak to the Police. They are compiling information to use against you and if you are contacted get in touch with Solomon Freidman via here;

Persons directly affected by the prohibition of the Swiss Arms series, or by changes to the rules affecting antique handguns should contact Solomon Friedman at Solomon@edelsonlaw.ca or by phone to 613-237-2290

Anyone angry at the decision of Public Safety to approve these "re-classifications" upon the recommendation made by the RCMP should be writing and meeting with their MP.

Nobody is getting calls.

It sounds like guns that are already granted antique status are unaffected, but if anyone is uncomfortable with owning an antique Colt SAA in .38spl I may be interested in it.
