Hey guys, got this great rifle off a member here onCGN, my first time dealing with this issue, so here goes the the new problem

SO right out of the box, read instructions, made sure bolt # matched gun #, thats good, depress trigger and the other button, not remembering its name right now, and bolt slides in no problem.

Issue is bolt handle only goes down to horizontal, not flush to the stock. I took out, spun the rescess, and tried again, same thing.

Someone plz help, my gun smith is off this weekend and im eager to shoot, but wont put ammo in a gun that has a partially closed action.

thanks for any help

Without seeing a picture it sounds like the bolt is not assembled correctly or is not cocked. I have a Savage 11 and had the same problem. Lots of videos on youtube about Savage bolts.

yeah, i was thinking the same, looking on youtube right now and re checking the assembley. i think pics would help, hard to describe, basicaly everything works bu the handle for bolt wont go in to the stock cut out, it sits outside of it. if that helps paint a pic

ive checked it out, taken it appart, andinspected the parts. they all do what is suposted to do, except fully close the bold. seems like its hung up on something inside the chamber, stoping it from a full rotation or loced position. when i get to close the bolt to where it stops( like half way) the fire pin is just outside the handle, and when fired realeases into the handle. i took bolt appart thinging the handle may have been put on wrong, but its only one side or the other for fitting, and no excessive play in it. manuel i have, if not mentioned this is NIB from CGN seller from factory, never fired

Very strange...and from the factory like that.

Any chance at something in the chamber?
Like a bit of cleaning patch?

yeah i know, im guessing i will have to see my gunsmith Tuesday, and go from there. I hate to wait but i cant figure it out, there has to be something with the rescess or the bolt face thats stopinng the full rotation. I dont believe the gent that sold it to me knew of this, as like i sain NIB, tags and stickers still on and bolt in origional packaging

Hopefully you won't need replacement parts from Savage...from what I hear you might be in for quite the wait.

Thank you all for your help and desire to try and help. After further checking, frustrations, and just plain disasembly, over and over, i could not find anything wrong with the gun, bolt, set up....etc.

what i did find is that who ever mounted the picanny rail, placed the wrong length of screw in in the wrong place, leaving some of the screw pertruding through into the bolt face locking area. as a result, the bolt as described dint do a full rotation, only partial due to an obstruction. although not a debrise from cleaning, a simple mistake, that over looked the manufacturer.

So anyone else have this issue, theres another spot to look at rather than manufaturer defect, Again, thanks for the help and guiding me in the right direction to resoling to issue at hand.

Is this first hand information or did you just read it on the internet?

I have trust in what some long term members say in the forum...

And it's not the first time I have heard of this.

Replacing a whole rifle by returning to a dealer is one thing but I doubt this would fit the situation regarding the rifle in this thread.

Call Savage and ask for a few parts yourself, let us know how it works out.

I wish the OP luck and hope he can get to using his new rifle ASAP.

Glad you found your problem, its a pretty common thing to check when mounting stuff like that

Actually I did contact Savage looking for parts and they where very helpful, prompt and the service was great. Anyways, thats just my personal experience and not I heard it from a friend of a friend internet hype.

Sometimes the internet is far worse than coffee shop gossip! :(
