Well guys I had been looking for one of these for quite some time. Happy to have finally got one. Been to cold out to take er out and test it! With the windshield today its -48

Nice looking rig buddy. Hope you enjoy it once it warms up. Or put your big boy snow pants on and go shoot the damn thing, jk lol.

I bought one of these when they first came out and it seemed like a neat gun at first. As it turned out,
the green finish that "Remlington" put on it started to flake off pretty fast. The bore of the barrel was
poorly cut and it took a lot of Flex-Honing to smooth it out. The chamber was rough as well and would
cause hard extraction when using Walmart Winchester shells. I honed out the chamber and lengthened
the forcing cone. No more hard extraction.

Add to that, the ejector put enough side load on the bolt to cause it to drag on the inside of the receiver
which caused the black finish on the bolt to scuff off in spots. The Desert Recon is basically an Express
model with "Tactical" stamped on it and a funky stock added. If I were to do up another 870 in Tactical
style, I'd get a nice old Wingmaster and go from there or buck up and get a Police 870.

I use this gun for trap shooting and put a fair number of rounds through it and after refinishing the metal
with Arma-Coat as well as adding a Carlson's barrel and Hogue stock, it now suits me better.

This gun also gets used for Tactical shooting as well, so I have Mesa Tactical parts to switch it over with.
It ain't a cheap set-up, but after all the work I put into 'er, it is now a smooth cycling and reliable beasty.

You'll find that when you carefully remove the Rem paint, that underneath is a nice flat black matte finish the same as a standard Express model. Removing the old paint on mine was simple. I lightly tapped the surface with a small 1/8 " diameter brass rod, which cracks the coating and then carefully lifted it off with a fine dental pick. It's an easy process that will not harm the metal beneath and did not take a whole lot of time on my gun.:)
