The Petawawa Gun Club is a shooting club which is operated through PSP (Personal Support Programs). The Club allows members, both military and civilian, to shoot on an outdoor 600 yard rifle range and a 50 yard pistol/shotgun range located on Garrison Petawawa’s training grounds. Shooting clinics and competitions are offered periodically through The Club and such events have been very successful in the past.
This year’s Sharpshooter Competition is a friendly competition for shooters of all skill levels. The competition has been designed by club member and precision shooter, Jamie Dent. This will mark the first year for The Club to have a dedicated precision competition. The goal is to encourage shooters of all skill levels to come out and experience precision shooting matches as well as to increase interest in shooting sports overall.
The competition will be an all-day event consisting of 8 matches. A complimentary BBQ lunch will be offered midday. All match winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded for all matches at the end of the day.
The competition will occur on Yankee range, Garrison Petawawa on Sunday, April 27, 2014. We plan to run the competition rain or shine but should any unforeseen circumstances make this impossible, a back-up date may be scheduled. Participants will be notified well in advance if this occurs.
Due to the fact that we are operating the competition on the base range, there are restrictions on what calibres are allowed to be used. Only 30-30, .270, .303, .223 and .308, rifles may be entered into this competition.
The matches are compiled of everything from ½ MOA (minute of angle) challenges, team matches to 600 yard falling plate matches. The competition will be broken into two classes each having separate winners and prizes. Competitors will either shoot in ‘Precision Class’ or ‘Sport Class’ depending on their equipment and skill level and equipment. All competitors will, however, have the option to compete in the “Precision” class if they wish to.
Shooters are required to bring their own rifles with bi pod, scope (optional), ammunition required for the matches in which they wish to compete as well as proper eye and ear protection. It is also highly recommended to bring a day bag to carry ammo and equipment throughout the day as well as a bag or container to collect empty casings. Other personal equipment that shooters wish to bring such as shooting mats are allowed however some matches do have kit restrictions.
Competitors are also required to have acquired their rifle D.O.P.E before the day of the competition. Saturday, April 26 will be an open range day to allow shooters to acquire this information and become acquainted with the range.
Registering for the competition does not require the competitor to participate in every match. Competitors may select which individual matches they wish to compete in. Registration and payment is required in advance and spaces will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
Match details have been attached along with a Timetable for the day, how to get to the range, as well as links for local hotels and restaurants.
