Not really a huge benefit in chambering a single-shot rifle in a short-action cartridge, unless you have tons of .308 ammo already, or perhaps a caramel-like fascination with the cartridge. :) Otherwise, why not the .30-06?

It's a bit like the situation when they chambered the #1 in .375Ruger. Difficult to see the point. Gatehouse probably bought one, and then demand evaporated.
 
I would like either they are nearly identical anyway both would suit my needs just that if I buy a no1 I want my first one to be very generic and versatile
I am a lover of 308 and 308 based cartridges just have different intended purposes for the 308 rifles on my wish list now :)

would also not mind a 300 win or other if 30-06 or 308 wasn't an option
 
i really want to know where my balls went....if i still had them id order the bob and not care what my WIFE says......excuse me I have to go finish the dishes...........................

This makes no sense to me. I, like most gun nutz, care little about "benefit". If I like it and want I then I'll set out to get it.

It's really that simple for most of us.

I understand perfectly, it's entirely about personal wants and tastes...it doesn't need to make sense.

For myself, I don't like certain combinations of features; stuff like short-action cartridges chambered in long-action guns (or single-shots! :)), extraneous "safety" buttons on lever actions, change for the sake of change, etc.

I was merely pointing out that the only advantage of a .308 over a .30-06 is the ability to fit into a short action. For some applications, such as heavier bullet weights, a .30-06 does beat out a .308, and in a single-shot you don't pay any penalty for that little extra capability.
 
You're totally right about the action length argument. I just wouldn't mind having similar chamberings for ammunition stores at home as well as being moderately recoil sensitive - enough to notice the difference between a .308 and a 30-06 (Ruger Scout vs. Tikka T3)
 
Gotcha! I have bought guns in order to use particular ammo that I had in quantity more than once.

Of course, I've also bought ammo for guns that I didn't yet own, but thought that I eventually would get, so...:)
 
A good reason for short action calibers in single shot rifles is to harmonize your battery with your other firearms... which is what I did with my Handi .308 family... it is a parallel to my M77 & No.1 .308 family... I was loading for too many calibers and streamlined my set to preferred cartridges in multiple platforms.

I just bought my 4th Ruger No 1 2 weeks ago...It's an A/H in 25-06 Rem....I have a 1A and an RSI in 7x57 and a 375H&H in a Laminate Stainless Tropical....I am happy to see them bring out the calibers they did this year...but dang...all at once...because I definatly want the 220, the 280 and the Bob to add to my collection.....I Guess I will just have to make the wife get a 2nd job.....Wish me luck!
