Hi,
I recently purchased a Ruger American Rimfire and found that while the fiber optic sight was nice, it blocks almost the entire target at 50yds and beyond. I'm looking for a decent scope that would allow me to start taking longer shots out to 150yds + but still work up close.

Any suggestions on something in the $100-$160ish range of scopes? Of course if theres value in the sub $100 then I'm all for it.

thanks

I have a Bushnell banner 3-8x40 on my savage 22 which gets the job done, although if you compare it to the Nikon pro-staff 4-12x40BDC i have on a 17hmr there is a pretty evident difference in quality and sight picture. The Nikon i believe was around the 200$ mark, Bushnell i got from a buddy for $50. That being said 3-8X magnification is all I would want on my 22.

Thanks guys I'll start looking at those. This is a newb question but why would an adjustable objective be important here. Is it so that it works well both close in and far off?

Are you going to be target shooting or just plinking/hunting? If just plinking and hunting don't really need an ao scope. For serious target work its very handy.

While at the local range someone let me try their rifle and he was shooting off hand silhouettes. I'd like to try that or have the option to do that, seemed like a lot of fun. So would AO help with that?

Never shot silhouettes so wouldn't know. For every distance you have to adjust the objective though. So if you are shooting 40 yards and then 120 right away you have to adjust it. If you have the time to adjust thats a great feature. If you are just banging gophers at all ranges they move quickly so fiddling with knobs doesn't work to well. All my scopes are centerfire scopes so 100 yard parallax setting and have zero issues with hunting or even casual target shooting.

Nikon Prostaff Target EFR rimfire!
Yep. I have to admit that this one is hard to beat. But if you want someting with just a little more power, have a look at SIGHTRON SIH 4-12X40 AO with HHR reticule 189$. Or if something smaller and lighter, try SIH 2-7X35 Rimfire Crosshair 145$. Impressive glass for the price.
