I am thinking of buying a used or new Tavor and wondering are they worth the money , and with all the news with the RCMP on the rampage banning guns are these guns on the hit list.
I would be using it for varmint shooting and plinking. I like the AR platform, but can not use them off the range. And were I live the only rifle cal I can carry year round is 223.
Seems to be a few second hand for sale lately, and why are guys selling at such a loss????
Any opinion would be a great help in making a decision.

If anyone is telling you which gun is going to be banned, or not banned in the future, he will be a rich man because he should be getting on a rampage in the stock and future markets.

The best thing the RCMP has ever done is not taking away that 12000 guns - the best thing they have done is putting the FEAR into the heart of gun owners to make them stop buying guns and let them stampede on each other. The best thing they have done is driving a wedge among dealers, guns owners and activists, and have them get on the throat of each other. What a tactic, let them sap the energy of each other ......and break the firearms community cohesion before the election.

How do stock markets collapse overnight? - it is fear. People start selling at bad news and creating a domino effect. Don't let them play gun owners into their hands. Don't let their ploy induce a collapse of the firearms community and the industry in Canada.

Firearms import has jumped 33% since the abolishment of the LGR. This is why they are doing what they are doing - to slow down the industry and the rate people are buying guns.

Numbers count. If the RCMP hadn't attacked the CZ and left the Swiss Arms to stand by itself we might not be in the potentially advantageous spot we now find ourselves in. Why? Because 12 000+ angry gun owners are a lot louder than 2000.
It is the exact same reason the AR 15 was kept off the prohibited list in the early 90's. Sheer numbers. My suggestion to everyone who can afford another 'black' rifle is to get one.

Such a loss?

I see most of them selling for ~$2500 used.

So, $200 cheaper than a brand new one.

Given there are new ones in stock at several dealers and several used one for sale here every day, who is going to ask (and get) what they paid for it or better?

Don't drink the EE coolaid. A gun isn't worth it's retail price + tax + inflated sense of awsome because some guy put fagpul on it.

Enjoy the sport. Or don't.

Up to you.

IMAT, buy one, you won't regret it. I have seen more tavors on the ee in the last week than the last month, I do believe the fear mongering has somthing to do with it, and prices have been low.

All that means is that it is time to cash in on huge savings.

Buy a new one. They are worth what you have to pay. A lot of guys shoot norinco ammo and it can be hard on. BArrels.
With new you have no concerns.

Ok here's the deal it all boils down to is your hobby and love of the gun enough so that you can stomach it being taken away without compensation?
Let's face it every single non restricted semi automatic rifle is currently at risk, perhaps even the restricted ones as well, from your 200$ sks to your 3000$ cool variety.

As far as it it worth the money? Absolutely, robust, reliable, fun and easy to clean.

I think I agree but I don't know what a "fagpul" is? 8)

Hey OP your bigger concern is the exchange rate, at some point all the guns dealers buy in US dollars will jump in price by 10-15% simply to cover the weakening CND dollar. Some guns have already taken the jump.

I had a cool chat with Diane from P&D about this, the reason some dealers have been able to insulate themselves from this is they buy US dollars forward. In other words they might have a contract to be buying US dollars at 5% for example when the actual exchange rate is more like 10-15%.

If the Tavors jump by 10% they will be over $3000 new per gun. Something to think about, and to be honest I don't see any sell off like you mentioned and I watch Tavors very closely. In fact, I was taken back yesterday because I'm seeing older gen 1 guns listed at retail for a new Gen2R (My name for the new Tavor that comes with the new Trigger and a hand Rail)

I wonder if some of the folks might be selling older gens to grab a new Gen2R just for the new trigger, but that is just speculation.

What's the problem with Norinco ammo? I got a 1600 case when I bought my Tavor. Haven't fired it yet but this is concerning. Don't really want to ruin my rifle.

Look into it, there is 100's of pages on CGN about norc 5.56 ammo. Basically Norc ammo is notorious for having larger than average discrepancies in ammunition size, thus leading to a shorter barrel life. Lots of people wont even purchase your used firearm if you admit to using it. My recomendation, run it in your firearms that have easily and cheaply replaceable barrels. (AR's)

to save you some reading, Norinco will wear your barrel much faster than higher quality ammo. its offen out of spec, and has poor quality materials in both the coating on the projectiles, and powder, so all that crud adds up to accelerated wear in your barrel. Not a big deal if you plan to keep the rifle for years, and are wiling to replace the barrel, but if you go to sell let others know you used Norc ammo, as many would not buy your rifle, if they knew.

i guess i should be changing my user name haha mines here to stay boys to the op don't hesitate to buy one new or used i can't wait for my timney tavor trigger few weeks away
