Package opened by CBSA

I ordered a bag of heavy zircon sand from Sinclaires. CBSA had cut the box and the plastic bag and half of it had leaked out by the time I got it.
 
I heard that they were increasing the handling fee to $8 plus of course HST. I too have had them open lots of all kinds of packages and then slap the handling fee and HST on me for the privilage, even though they already know what is inside as it is contents labelled and they x-ray nearly every package that crosses the border.

They have to justify their high indexed government wages and benefits by bringing in so much extra revenue from handling fees, which I think is now included in their annual budget figures, they are just like most government agencies in Canada.

BTW, I remember reading a few years ago that Canada has the highest percentage of government workers of all levels combined (Fed, Provincial and Local) per population of any country in the world that was not either Communist or a dictatorship, and we are about double the level of countries like Australia and the US. Imagine what this country could be if we could get our numbers down to similar to those countries.
 
It was probably just a 'war on guns' moment for their new TV show. I caught a bit the other day, they found a rifle barrel coming into the country, which should be completely a non issue as far as I'm aware, then played it up like they'd taken a bullet for the Prime Minister.

From what I've seen, most politicians seem to want to push the other way. Disturbing given the company you mention in that category.
The solution for bad government is not more government. I can't understand why so few seem to be able to see this.
 
Yeah, well they have to provide make-work jobs for all the Liberals and Dippers who are too stupid to do a job of real work and can't read enough English or French to know where to sign their Welfare cheques.

Besides, the regular Conservatives are all too busy working hard and keeping the economy staggering along.
 
since we are talking about CBSA, I happened to come across this TV show Border Security and I happened to hear one of the CBSA referring to a muzzle loader as restricted (lot more story behind it but that is the just of it).. Doh !
 
Yes pretty common, my favourite time for me is when US home land security searched my checked baggage and left me a letter saying they did. I was carrying 4 USGI synthetic stocks and complete WWII Ithaca 1911a1 slide, all brought from California, all of which was all still there when I landed in Calgary.
