Hey guys. I have a tikka tac and was starting to think of upgrading the stock or upgrading the gun to a sako trg 22.

So I have been checking out stocks and haven't seen anything that has jumped out at me.

Just wondering what you guys are using or what you would suggest. I would like to keep it in a stock not really wanting a chassis system. Also would like the stock to have a aluminum block in it as well.

Ya I have two Tkkas I would have loved to use. I personally don't like savage or Remington actions but I ended up buying savage as using a tikka in this sport is tough. Because there really are limited selection of aftermarket stocks, barrels etc.
sako trg is a sick gun. If you can afford it sell off your tikka and do that. You won't look back.

The GRS stocks look very nice and would be a great option if you were looking for wood. I almost put one on a remy I just put together. If you're looking for a synthetic stock I suggest Manners or McMillian. Both inlet for the T3 action and they are both top notch. I have both brands in my gun safe. They don't offer an aluminum bedding block but I think one is better served glass bedding anyway.

that being said I have a TRG 22 and LOVE it. One of the reasons I went with a TRG is because I could pick up a used one for around the same $$ as a T3 tactical plus a stock upgrade, and I know that's what I would have done if I got a T3.

GRS stocks looked very tempting to me.

Walk me through the math here.
All the TRG's I've seen cost at least twice as much as even the most expensive Tikka T3 model. How much do these stock upgrades cost???

T3 Tac will run run you 1800$ new + tax. Most of the chassis out there will add another 1000$ to the price. If you keep your eyes peeled on the EE there's a good chance you could pick up a TRG for that price. The TRG is a truely excellent rifle but has very expensive accessories. I would argue that a T3 would be the cheaper way to go and has the advantage of more aftermarket options to play with.

I think it would help getting answers if you would state what kind of stock you are looking for exactly.

This very topic was discussed very recently - the search function is your friend :)

I will be going with an AICS when I get my hands on a CTR.

Check out tikkaperformance.com

Coretac carries some of their stuff too.

I know they're not expensive, but Boyd's will make you a T3 stock for 300$, that you can then bed, etc. Mystic Jerry will help you out 100% on that.

There are enhanced recoil lugs and pillar bedding kits available too...

I'm building a LR rig from a .300WSM T3 Varmint, and I'm pretty excited about it. I don't think that the jump to the 5500$ TRG will be worth it dollar for dollar, but that's just me.

There's a guy on EE selling and entire TRG setup, scope, case, bipod, etc for 15 freakin thousand dollars!!!!

I'm still kicking myself for walking away from one at Cabelas Regina in .338 that was being blown out for 3200$.... STUPID!!!!

Anyone here running a Tikka in a MDT chassis?

I will likely end up buying a T3 Lite in .223 for coyote hunting and I'm toying with the idea of putting it in either the HS3 or MDT (so I can use iron sights) but I a little worried about it being too heavy for hunting.

TRG prices are insane these days...
Retail on a 42 with phosphate finish is north of $5000 at any of my local retailers. Our dollar and continual price increases every year from the manufacturer guarantee that it will only go up like it has every year for the past 10 or so at least.

Buy now if you want one. If it was shorter and lighter, mine would not be on the EE

Your Tikka probably will shoot just as good as the TRG,,, If you have to be the cool guy on the range with the flashy gun buy the TRG, nothing wrong with that but for the money Ive never heard them shoot worlds above a standard T3 in fact all the ones Ive saw shot the same for 1/5 of the price.

Ran through the same thought processes. Bought a new S/S T3 as a donor, Benchmark #6 contour in 6mm Dasher, Yodave spring , and steel recoil lug. This can be done for < $ 2000 and you should end up with a 1/2 moa rifle to 1000 yards. Also, have a McMillian stock A3-5 costs $1300 to my door and is a straight bolt up to the two other T3's that I have. No change in POI and not necessary to bed action.
A TRG-22 would be nice but not a 308Win fan
