Nxs 5.5-22-56 or ATACR which one ? Pro and con

The following is just my personal opinion based on my personal experiences, so that it for whatever it is worth to you.

Well, I have had a good look at the ATACR, and it is a very good scope, but it is a bit above what I personally need or desire in a scope. Nightforces in general are big and heavy... in other words, solid as hell. The ATACR is definitely big, 34mm tube, 56mm objective, it is not a small scope by any means. Now other than the size, the only other real drawback is that it is **edit, thanks guys** $400.00 more expensive over a fully kitted out NXS 5.5-22x56 with zerostop and the reticule of your choice.

My personal choice was pretty clear, as I use mine on large caliber rifles where eye relief is king.

I have owned and shot with well over 30 different types of rifle scopes from dozens of manufacturers, from cheap Chinese knockoffs to $4,000.00 + Premier Riflescope Heritage... and everything in between. The NXS 5.5-22x56 with Zerostop and MOAR is my go to scope for cost/ benefit... which lets be honest, the price goes up realllly fast at this level of the rifle scope game for small percentage improvements. The NXS is one hell of an amazing piece of kit for the cost, around 2k new and cheaper used.

I have recently purchased 3 more NXS 5.5-22x56 zerostop MOAR scopes to compliment the two I already have, and am swapping the other brands on my dedicated LR rifles, including .338LM's and .50BMGs. That is how much I believe in this particular scope. I have tons of hits out to 1000m and beyond with these scopes. I haul them through the bush unprotected, I have used them in -40c in blasting snowstorms to +35c on blazing hot days on sizzling military ranges, and muddy, raining days trekking through swamps. These scopes have taken all the hits I have dished out to them and not even been fazed.

I would without one single doubt, stake my life on the quality of these scopes.

Just to show I am not a BS'er... although I imagine a few on here already know that I back up what I say, here is some eye candy.

Here are two of the three new ones, third still in the mail... om nom nom they are so beautiful!

On my .338LM

On the semi auto .50BMG.

In addition, the MOAR reticule has totally won me over as the fastest compensating and adjusting reticule on the market bar none.

MOA hashmarks, MOA clicks.

SIMPLE. Shot not on target? Count how many MOA away and what direction on the reticule, and just click it in. Boom, done. That's it, no math, no magic.

I commonly spot for people and call out adjustments faster and more precisely than fellow shooters using spotting scopes, becase the adjustment is precise and in MOA, not mils, not mil dots, not inches or feet, not ballistic reticules, etc... but exactly what is on their scope turret.

I really want to do a video on the whole system, as it has really massively improved my efficiency at shooting long range and compensating for environmental factors to get on target faster after the first shot, and to help others do the same.

Didn't realize eye relief would even be a concern with the ATACR. I'm not shooting a .50BMG mind you. I paid exactly $400.00 more for the ATACR over a NXS 5.5-22x56mm HS/ZS MOAR. I guess depends where you shop.

Not really as there is almost EXACTLY a $400.00 difference between cost as well as MAPP between the 2 scopes on the NF price list.
SO assuming that the dealer you favor is going with dictated MAPP $400.00 is bang on what the difference should be.

^Exactly^, not $500.00. I think KevinM stated $500.00

$520ish was the difference at the dealer I had purchased from IIRC, however I did not check into other retailers about the ATACR, nor have I checked if there is any updated pricing on any of the units, so you guys are very likely correct about the cost difference.

I shall edit my original post to reflect this, since it seems I am incorrect on that point.
