Hello,

I am trying decided what optic to put on a Daniel Defense Mk 18. I was thinking of going with the Elcan SpecterDR 1-4 or using an aim point Mirco or CompM4 with a magnifier. I don't use the gun for any competitions. If there is another optic that also would work please suggest it. Thanks.

I am almost settled on a USO 1XX24 FFP for my DD MK18, after reading all i could, it look like that what i need... JP.

I would go with the spectreDR 1-4. Its glass is perfect, wide field of view, and extremely well built. POI shift is almost zero between magnification. A Comp M4 is nice, but add a magnifier and it getting near the price of the DR.
Here is mine: They may be doing another run in dark earth as well.

I run an eotech on mine.

I may go to a spectre at some point but for my indoor plinking, hard to best the eotech.

Battery life is good. Haven't changed my battery in 2 years, and its used about 30-40 hrs per year (On) If it dies, the reticule is still there. At night the entire reticule illuminates similar to a nightforce scope.
It looks bulky, but its profile is lower than the aimpoint M2, M3, M4. Width is same as any eotech.
My LMT 10.5 MK18 weighs 8.8 lbs unloaded. That's with M3x light system and all accessories. The DR weights 1.1875 lbs (19 ounces)

I'd recommend he look through both then (if dropping this kind of money) because I initially had the Elcan 1-4 but didn't like it. I found the ACOG much better to look through...these old wizard eyes...

I am just a beginner in AR but i think this optic look quite bulky... JP.

US Optics SR-C weights 725 grams, is 12" long, by 2.8" wide, by 2.5" high. ELCAN SpecterDR 1-4x weighs 640g, is 6" long, by 3" wide, by 3" high.

Other factors worthy of consideration: country of origin (Canada vs. US), which has seen more field duty (SpecterDR), and the cost ($2,053 vs. 2,599).

Other option i have is waiting for the new Specter 1X3X9 ( was thinking to get this one for my Ruger SR762 ) but then it's ETA is unknown... JP.

I went through the same research and choice recently. I went with a Leopold HAMR 4X with a Delta Point MRD on top. The advantage is having two optics and two different zeros. My MRD is zeroed for 25/35 yards while the HAMR is set for 50/200.

I use the combo for 3Gun and similar competitions. My other close choice was an ACOG with a Trijicon MRD on top. The HAMR was the winner for several reasons. The glass is excellent and I really like the reticle. The MRD gives me fast shots at close range with very good accuracy. Then when needed I drop down to the HAMR. Slam bam, thank you mam :)

Hilo71 is switched on! That MK18 is awesome. Go with the SpecterDr 1-4x, FDE, 5.56x45mm. if you don't want to save that many pennies then get a tan EOTech EXPS. They will be replacing the 553's.

After mounting a S&B on my MK18 for load devellopment, i find this little AR is such a laser for a shorth barrel AR, that is is well deserving to keep that S&B permenantly... Now for many of you it may look disroportionate but when you get that kind of performance, look are irrelevant... JP.
