Shorten PAL Approval Times

Your story makes me sad... is this just due to the extra layers of bureaucracy in Que? It seems that it's not unheard of 6+ month waits when applying in Quebec.

WOW ! MORE and MORE Development since this morning... Let me take you back since the last few events :

(Day 72) Feb 21 : Called CFO - "Sir, you called several times, it won't change anything. Everything is in order, WE WILL call you back within 2 weeks"
(Day 93) Mar 13 : Called CFO - "Please hold the line" ... "Thank you for holding, what phone number can we easily reach you at ?" ... "Thank you, you will be called in 24-28hres"

Now again we're on Day 93, March 13th, I Just received a text from my brother in law telling me he had just hung up from the Interview, i was super hyped so i came here to write it down but my phone rang again it was my 2nd reference calling to tell me they had just called her as well, i was even more excited so i came back here to let you guys know and RING RING ... here goes the phone again .... for my Interview .... and guess what .... MY STATUS CHANGED ONLINE TO APPROVED !!!!

Happy dance is in order :)

93 Days from when they received to when they approved. (add 4 days for when i actually sent it, and 3-4 days for when i will actually receive it) = 100days process ! Wow !

Don't forget they quote 60 days (60 Working days) and there are only 20 working days per month.

McButterpants,
Now I noticed why your behind me.. My CC was charged On Jan 6th, 6 days after it appeared online.. Yours was 28 days after received and case opened...the person who had your file was on vacation I'm assuming..
But the end is near, they should be calling you tonite or Monday.

You bet, they just did and my status changed to approved :) Man i'm soooooooooo relieved !

Congrats McButterpants :)

Thanks man, i was going to wait longer before calling them back again, but because of your post i decided to call them today anyways, and it surely worked ! Now i wish that i could say i will be shopping soon, but my piece has ben paid in full over 2 months ago :) It was a hard one to find (P226 .22LR with beaver tail + a 9mm Conversion kit) and it was the only one i could find at Dante, in montreal, so i bought it. So now gotta wait for the RPAL to come, then request the permit to bring my P226 home, and THEN get my yearly transport permit home ... the adventure is not over, but i guess the worst is behind !

... happy dance again ! :)

Mar. 07, 2014 - CC charged.
Mar. 14, 2014 - Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
It was actually probably approved before today. I have been checking the GC Key website religiously every day since I began this process, and continually getting annoying error alert messages. I called constantly all day long today and got nothing but hold. I get home tonight and read BigSal's post and tried the link he provided. Much simpler to use, PLUS IT ACTUALLY WORKS... Showed status approved. Wish I could get a PAL #, but gonna have to wait for it in the mail! Hopefully early next week! Very excited! No interviews for me or either of my references.

My CC is already cringing from the blow it knows it is about to take...

Cheers and good luck to all still waiting anxiously.

Hi guys,

I've been reading some of the waiting times and they sound scary. I called CFC a couple of weeks ago and said my application is with Ontario CFO. Just checked online and status is

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

How many more weeks/months do you think I might have to wait?

I'm waiting for my restricted and non.

Thanks,
Johnny

It depends, if you have no criminal record/depression issues/ or any other personal history questions answered it shouldn't be too long. I waited 5 months after it said " application has completed initial processing etc..." But I had issues in the past. So they had to order court transcripts, doctor records etc.. Just call back often and be polite and they are more than willing to get the ball rolling for you. In my 5 months I never experienced one rude or un helpful person. Good luck! Hope you get approved soon!

For the Manitobans, avg seems to be three months (PAL/RPAL):

Dec 18 Received by CFC Miramichi
Jan 17 CC Charged
Jan 23 My interview done (I called in) Had both references call in same day. Application now with CFO
Jan 23-March 3 Called three separate times, my status was "unassigned"
Mar 4 Couldn't get through on the phone, sent an E-mail. Was then called and interviewed by CFO. CFO then interviewed one of my references
Mar 7 Status changed to ISSUED
Mar 14 PAL/RPAL delivered

Mar 15 Bank account drained and CC maxxed out. =)

Crap, I do have some issues. Nothing serious though. How did you find out they had to order court transcripts and doctor records? Which number did you call - CFC or CFO? Thanks :)

i initially talked to CFC.in new brunswick, after 4 and a half months they allowed me to talk directly to the CFO in BC in charge of my application. I was applying for N-R PAL. The people i talked to in New Brunswick had told me that for a full background check they may search court transcripts and doctor records. in my case they did.

Hey guys n gals.
Sent in my application for non-restricted all compleye and with payment. 20 days later I was able to see it online. At 24 days it says that the initial processing has been complete. Now at 48 days all they tell me is it is with the cfo. So I called the cfo at extension 6000 and left a message yesterday. A lady called this morning and said it is sitting with the cfo in fredericton and possibly that it could be flagged or there are details on it that need I investigation. SHOULD I BE WORRIED???

Background: i am a model canadian. No criminal record. No pending anything. Just speeding tickets. BUT I was not always canadian and born elsewhere.

Whats the skinny? Any ideas for new canadians? Anyone fits that profile?

Well i was born outside the country but have lived here for over 25 years (i'm 29 right now). I too have nothing under my name, not even speeding tickets. My process was just long because i'm in Quebec but besides that the fact that i was born elsewhere doesn'T mean much too them if you'Re a canadian citizen today.

I am in B.C.

I applied for my first RPAL. It was delivered in NB on February 13th. On the 14th of March it finally showed up as processed and pending and my Credit Card was charged. Today, March 17th it says it was approved and I is being mailed and I should receive it within two weeks. I never did an interview and neither of my two references were called. Guess that are really trying to stream line things here!
