im wanting to put some open sights on my kimber montana 84m in 30-06 for brush hunting and defense. im not sure which sights would work best on this gun. anyone have any thoughts or information/experience. also anyone know of a good gunsmith in the kamloops/vancouver vacinity that would be up for doing this?
thanks

The sights off a Tikka hunter are available threw Stoeger, and are well built and solid, very reasonable price for the quality.

The other sights that would be great are NECG adj Clasdic rear with one of there banded or Holland ramp front sight, but that a few hundred in just the sights themselves?

The others question to ask is do you have enough drop on your stock to be able to use open sights without wrenching your neck down?
Good luck , Dale Z!

Pondered it many times before, and as JJ-65 just stated my face is already scrinched-down into the stock with a low mounted scope.
The straight stock with no drop at the comb is designed to push straight back and help negate felt recoil...nature of the beast.
Go onto Kimbers website and check out the Talkeetna. After you have finished adjusting the crotch of your jeans from the inevitable boner that will follow, note how high the factory irons sit. AFAIK the Talkeetna uses the same stock as the 8400 series of Montana.

When I was considering irons it was specifically for a wilderness-carry .338Fed with no glass.
If you are considering running a scope on some kind of quick detach set-up then in my opinion you are adding unnecessary bulk and messing up the lines of a very trim rifle, you could save a great deal of hassle and grab a T3 Battue.
If you do go ahead, please re-visit this thread with some pics and a report as I'm very interested in your results.

if you get talley scope bases you can get one of their adjustable rear peep sights and then get your gunsmith to mount an appropriate front sight to match it...

I had that exact plan for an 84L Montana with a chopped barrel, just never got around to it. Maybe this year.
