Ontario powder shortage?

New to the game? There have been shortages in the US since 14-Dec-2012.
The effects propagated unevenly into Canada say 6 months later.

One of the first powders to become scarce/spotty availability in Canada was Varget.

Ok , guess i wa just lucky last time. I load about three 8lbs kegs of promo a year. Last time i just bought no problem. this time he said he has none and first ten kegs in are spoken for. why iS there a shortage ? I would think extra sales means extra profits. Maybe they are producing at thier capacity . just wondering?

Supply simply cannot keep up with demand which has gone through the roof. From what I see on component manufacturers websites, most if not all are going flat out and then some to try and keep up.

Was told by Hummassons that the Alliant plant in Australia burnt down and that is why there will be little Alliant powder for this year.
Haven't looked into it, but trust he knows more than I do on the topic.

Lots of threads on why, and "if" there is a shortage etc. Crack open the loading books as you may be using what you can find for awhile ... Get some orders in in several places.

With the .223 ..45acp surplus dry up expect more .223 .. 45acp plinkers to get into reloading . Rounds jump $.30 cents each (.223 ) , and till they decide to move to reloading , they may use more 22lr than usual to save what surplus they have ... so more stress on supplies all around

Hummasons, Lawry or Higginsons... after that you need to go local stores.

Lawry has a good price on 8 lbs of 800-x and it is in stock. I assume you are loading 12 gauge.

Luckily there doesn't seem to be a shortage of Pyrodex. But on checking Higginson's page I was surprised to see just how much powder is not in stock. I used to reload .308 so I feel for you guys. I guess this will go on for quite awhile.

On another forum they have emailed the powder plant and said its a rumor, the powder shipment from there has been up 75% in 2013 and they are shipping more powder then ever in the history of there 66 year lifespan.

They better step it up.....only 75%. They could go 200% and not keep up right now. With a production increase like that, they should be able to invest in new/more equipment.

There's lots of advice out there about what the powder manufacturers should do. If they deem this high demand to be temporary (as they seem to have done), they'd be foolish to expand their facilities.
