AR Stock Options?

Just picked up my first AR and took it to the range. I told myself I was going to keep it stock for a while. That thought held for at least 2.5 days, as I've decided i need to upgrade the stock.

Currently I have the standard "M4 Stock" and it is fully functional but wobbles and rattles around. I don't like my guns wobbling or rattling. Based on what i've seen I'm thinking the Magpul ACS could work. It has a friction lock which the magpul description says "minimizes" movement. Can anyone let me know how much the movement is minimized by the friction lock? As well, since I am new to this, any recommendations for other stocks I should consider which would be appreciated.

Wobbling isn't an issue anywhere on an AR (unless your barrel is wobbling). If you absolutely positively don't want you stock to wobble i'd look into a Magpul CTR, ACS or better yet a B5 SOPMOD stock from OneShot.

Remember, more smelly dudes in dresses have been killed with wobbling stocks than non-wobbling stocks.

I'm looking into this issue too. I like the looks of the FAB Defense Survival stocks, which I plan to order up Real Soon Now.

Just be sure whether your rifle needs a 'commercial' style stock or a 'milspec' stock...there are some small but apparently important dimensional differences. OTOH the FAB Defense product says it fits fine on either, so go figure.

A strip of tape along the buffer tube also works to de-wobblify it if it bugs you.

I love my ACS stock. The friction lock completely eliminates movement. The best feature is the fantastic cheek weld it offers. So comfortable you could use it as a pillow.

Someone else told me they tried this as well. They ran a strip of duct tape along the buffer tube.
