I want to put a bipod on my m305 but not 100% which way to go. I was looking at a caldwell with the pivot. Not sure how to choose height. It will mostly be used for bench shooting. Also should i go with the a sling swivel stud or gg and g adapter? Any help is appreciated.

Hi bud, what stock do you have?
if you have the factory stock you can get a sadlak picatinny rail for the bottom of the stock. it comes in two versions one with a stud and one without it. Which bipod you want to buy will determine which rail you need. Install is pretty easy you just need a drill and the correct size of bit. Here is a link to some options.
There is also just the stud available below for a cleaner look with a harris bipod or similar stud mounted bipods.

I've got 4 m14s and stud mounted all of them- as far as height goes, get a friend with a ruler and have him measure the distance between the bottom of the forend and the top of the bench with you seated in your firing position- or measure the height of your sandbags - either way will do- the principle's the same- as far as the accuracy goes, don't sell these rifles short- with the PROPERLY DEVELOPED loads TUNED TO THE RIFLE, they will do moa or better - and put the "thing that goes up" up so the rifle locks into your shoulder( I do know the proper name for it, but most don't , hence) as far as mounting the stud goes, I used the front rivet on the sling swivel, drilled it out, and put in a t-nut and sling swivel stud, cut that off at the right height and epoxied the works in place
Love my M305 and I want to see those tuned rigs that shoot MOA complete the 1.5 MOA challenge we currently have going. It would be great to see what it takes to get great performance from the platform.

Putting a bipod on the barrel will bend it just enough to throw off your shots. Bipods do not go on barrels. They're not stable enough for bench shooting either. Use a sand bag. Don't see a need for a 'pod on a non-varmint rifle in the first place, but it's not me that'll be lugging the SOB around. Bipods make rifles heavier.
