Hey guys, I will be moving from Montreal to Calgary in little over a year. I shoot IPSC and would like to know the best place to become a member. I currently shoot at CRAFM and really like it here. Indoor is ideal

I'm going at the end of april to scout business locations and look a neighbourhoods, I would like to visit a couple ranges while i'm there

Cheers

Carl

I'd say CSC and CDTSA.... But I might be biased.

Milo range opens for CDTSA in the fall. Membership is open in December/January of each year. Big plans for action shooting there.

Just read the CDTSA regi is closed for 2014. Is it hard to get a spot? Or just too late in the season

Indoor ranges: Calgary Shooting Centre and The Shooting Edge (both in the "near" SE part of the city). I believe there is an indoor range in Red Deer (north of the city), as well, which might be another option worth considering if you're keen on shooting indoors.

Outdoor ranges:

Calgary District Target Shooters Association - Far SE edge of the city currently, new Milo location will be just over an hour SE from the edge of the city.

Buffalo Target Shooters Association - 45 mins west of the city's edge. No membership cap, as far as I know.

There is also apparently a range in Trochu, 1:15 NW of Calgary, but I have no idea how one becomes a member.

If you're really interested in IPSC competition I'd recommend BTSA, where you have the opportunity to set up your own stages to practice on. They have regular IPSC-style practice nights throughout the season. It sounds like CDTSA has big ambitions for their new site, though, and I really hope it works out that way.

The biggest advantage of the CDTSA over the APRA is that the executive in the CDTSA are made up of shooters....who just happen to respect, support and treat the membership with a modicum of decorum....oh, and fancy this: they give you access to the range when you join them too! What a concept!!

I have high hopes for the new range out in milo. The good atmosphere should extend from the Shepard range easily enough. The extra space and shooting options will just make it epic!

...Seem to welcome non-members to organized shoots.

BTSA's "holster night" (Monday night IPSC/IDPA practice) is wide open to non-members. They're scheduled to start sometime in April, I think, so the OP could potentially get a feel for the facility and membership. No substitute for seeing things and people in person...

Anybody know when CDTSA's league night starts up?

You say BTSA Holster nights are open to non members? How much, and is there an email list or something I can sign up for? I'd very much like to attend. What are your holster training requirements?

Thanks Guys!

I cant wait to shoot out west... Forward movement is not allowed here in QC. I've been waiting for years and now my wife has finally agreed to get the Fook out of here!!! wooohooo!!!
AB. here we come!.. in 2015

Yep, wide open, it's one of the ways the club promotes new membership. Just show up and pay for a visitor pass (and possibly a target fee). No holster training requirement; In fact, one of the purposes of the Monday nights is to get people more supervised experience with safe use of holsters. Depending on the night, you might even be able to squeeze into a "holster course" that one of our experienced members will be running. No email list that I know of, but you can view the Homestead Range Complex calendar at

The first one is evidently scheduled to happen on April 21. Details at w ww.albertarifle.com/forum/calendar.php?view=event&calEid=2741

I would email the club to be sure that it will be running, since sometimes the early season Monday nights are cancelled due to weather or snowy/wet rain conditions.
