Scorpion Optics (canadian owned)

I wouldn't mind supporting a local company, but only if they're good.

as above, get a scope from a well known brand name.
spend as much if not more than you can afford.

The hate comes from the fact that they are a $9 chinese product selling for $75 to $300 and they are total junk, period... not 'solid optics'.. in fact they're the exact OPPOSITE of 'solid optics'.

Have one on a mosin. Seems like a decent scope so far. But don't go expecting anything incredible, they are cheap $200 scopes after all, and really if you can afford something better you should get something better.

$200 isn't exactly cheap....you can get Redfields, and decent Bushnells for that price that are not made in China....

ok, just to play the devils advocate here, are the negative "ratings" some of you are giving them from experience or just from the fact that they are made in China?

now, don't get me wrong, I agree with that thinking in most things, trust me. however, I was also told my many people to "buy a real Beretta and not that cheap Turkish POS" for the same reasoning. I held both and bought the Turk. It is possibly my favourite pistol, in fit, finish and useability. Maybe second to my 1911 due to the really great trigger on my 1911, but that's it.

As well, Lucid optics are made in China and get GREAT reviews.

I bought one for my BL-22.
Clarity was good enough for a rimfire scope.
I just didn't care for the thick cross hairs.
Made it hard for me to make tight groups.
Anything over a hundred bucks, I'd look at other scopes.
Find a good used high end scope for better dollar value.

I had a lucid hd7 for about 5mins before returning it....the LED housing obscured almost 1/4 of the view so it was like looking through a D instead if an O....
Chinese optics are junk, doesn't matter who puts their name on it

I think it depends on whose name it is. My gf has a couple of Chinese-made (for Zeiss) lenses on the $30,000 LED fluorescing microscope in her lab. Not quite as good as Zeiss's German-made ones (she has those, too) but definitely far from junk or Zeiss wouldn't offer them. I've also heard good things about the Chinese Zen-Ray binos. I remember when we said that anything made in Japan was junk. Initially it wasn't very good but now they are making stuff as good as anyone.

I can't comment on the Scorpion Optics stuff as I haven't seen it. Run-of-the-mill Chinese stuff may indeed not be very good- or worse. (Anyone remember the King Optics thread?)
