Thinking about a 17 WSM any thoughts?

I haven't posted on here in awhile so I apologize if this is a common thread...

I'm thinking about investing in a 17 WSM, as a coyote/fox/bunny rifle. Any thoughts and opinions out there? If there is another great thread already started, just point me in that direction.

I've kinda fallen in love with this round but have yet to see one, we have a caliber restriction here on coyotes and I don't really care to spend hundreds on centerfire ammo anymore.

Depending on the ammo & distance, even the .17 HMR is a little "OVERKILL" for the rabbits. Head shots indeed with either the 17WSM or 17HMR for the hoppers.
 
Have they made a Bmag or a 17WSM that is accurate enough to hit a rabbit in the head? That target isn't much bigger than a golf ball and from the range reports I have been seeing it ain't going to happen!

I will stay with the 22lr or if more than 75 yards the 22mag/17HMR.
 
the few stores i went to, i picked up a gun in each one and they went from crap, to crap to shyte, bolt wouldnt close without excessive force, barrel was as small as a pencil and just looked like it got thrown together cheaply, as for me im waiting for someone else to make one, when my first impression was cheap, short barrel on it, the mag was crappy and heavy, balance on it was junk. Overall i wouldnt get it, shame on savage i think.
 
I like the look of the round. I have heard bad reports about Savage quality. It's a shame CZ don't step up and bring something to the table. The only other issue is ammo availability. I hope it does well and more manufacturers get involved.
 
Bought one but haven't had a chance to even clean it yet. Have 4 boxes of 20 gn and 5 boxes of 25 gn so ammo isn't an issue. Hopefully will have a chance in a couple of weeks to get to the range. As stated the stock is a little on the soft side,mine favors the left side of the barrel channel. I'm hopeful I got one of the better ones.

the 17 hm2 would be my first pick if I was planning on eating the rabbits. The wsm has not found much interest in the market place. Probably will never approach the hm2 in popularity. imho
 
Try finding a 17mh2 now! Yes I know there is one in the EE but I'm looking for a stock version
The savage I held wow hard to believe savage put their name on it.
 
I have found rarer guns than 17hm2 by asking if anyone knows of one in the appropriate forum. WTB sometimes works too in EE.
