So, I answer the phone early this afternoon, and it is my hunting buddy.

He's not much of a gunnut, just a good hunter. He says to me: "Are you interested in a 308 Norma Magnum Rifle?"

My reply: "Well, not too much, since I already have 3." He says : "It sounds like a great deal to me, it's a PH Safari in pretty decent shape."

I say: "How much? He says: "$400.00." I reply: "naahh, I might give $300.00 if it is in real good shape."

OK, says my friend. 2 hours later, who shows up at my door with a PH Safari rifle, scope mounted [4x Bushnell SC]
and...two full boxes of Factory Norma Mag ammo?!! Also, the remainder of a box of the original ammo bought with the gun...it has 7 rounds in it.
Apparently this is all the ammo that this rifle has shot!! And it looks like it after I tore it down, still had the thick grease under the barrel and action.

All for $300.00! I cleaned the bore [was not dirty, only a bit of dust.] Borescoped it - Perfect! So I hung a 3.5x10x40 on it. Adjusted the trigger to 2¾ lb.
Then I removed the dried-up hockey-puck hard rubber PH recoil pad and stuck a Limbsaver I had laying around on it.
Will try it out and see. I'll report back after I shoot it.

I'll remove the horseshoe from my rear later, lol. PICTURES BELOW!

Dave.

Your buddy probably picked it up at a yard sale for $75..what are buddies for eh.

Actually, this friend of mine won't even take a finder's fee. He is a long-time hunting partner, and I sort of mentored him.
He is always talking to people at the gym, or the pool. Gets some good deals.

Since he has no interest in a rifle that costs so much to feed, he simply passed it on to me. Love it!! :)

Dave.

Sounds like you got a pretty good score there!

Good find!! It`s all about the people you know....

My uncle (the biggest gunnut I know) shows me all the time the guns he buys off old timers getting out of hunting.

He bought a Franchi semi shotgun, win94 30-30rc, two marlin lever .22lrs and a sako forrester l579 in .22-250 all for $500 couple weeks ago. I never find deals like that!!

A great scoop for sure, and for folks that are always on the hunt for nice guns at bargain prices,
it pays to check out the Obit's in the paper and chat up the widows as well.;)

Yeah, you guy's know who ye be!

No Doubt!! The last time I looked, the 308 Norma Mag ammo at our LGS was just over $80.00/20 [plus taxes..] :sok2

Fortunately, I have at least 3, possibly 4 sets of dies for the 308 Norma, so am set up well. :)

Regards, Dave.

How time flies and things change. In the early 60's when, as a kid, I purchased ammo for my 303Br. it cost $3.50. Quite a difference when the next year I purchased my first 308NM ammo at $8.10 a box. And now, X 10.
