Old single shot need advice

I've got my late grandfather's 22 single shot that he won as a kid a long long time ago (1908). It is a W.W. Greener "Ladies Special Model" of which 50 were made. It is in fine shape mechanically and decent shape cosmetically. Anyway, I finally got the stuck case (original) open without damaging it and so I want to shoot this rifle.

I don't know much about .22LR and was wondering if there is anything I need to consider when buying some ammunition (will be getting it at CDN Tire), i.e. what grain etc?

Go find some bulk ammo, Federal, Winchester Blazer, w/e and go shoot. If you want to spend some money on ammo CCI Standard Velocity are good rounds. I hesitate to say stingers or mini-mags due to the age of the rifle.

There have been reports from different areas of the country regarding .22LR being hard to find. you can shoot pretty much anything you want with a single shot and not have to worry about FTE's. Just pick up some ammo and have fun.

Can't find the d#%m key for the trigger lock! Needs a good cleaning as it hasn't been out of the case in probably 20 years and who knows when it was last fired.

When I get it out to the range (and in the sun) I'll take a better photo.
 
There is a video on here someplace that shows how to remove those locks.
Looks fairly simple, but I can't remember where I saw this darn video.
Anyone care to post it up for the lad?

Yeah, just watched one where all you had to do was twist the two halves apart. Had it apart in seconds.
 
I echo Ganderite's comments. This isn't some cheap "boy's rifle". It's more than likely a pretty high end match grade gun in its day. If the barrel is still in good shape I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised at the level of accuracy you can get from it.

When I can't find the key for the Masterlock style trigger locks, a butter knife slid in carefully next to the trigger guard pops them off in about half a second. No lock picking skills required for those puppies.
 
Range Report!

I took her out to the range yesterday. 25yds standing for the first 5, sitting for the next. Then the remainder are with a rest under the forestock. Took me a while to get used to the rear sight (and the tiny size of the rifle in general). I can safely say this rifle shoots better than I can!
