im having some problems with my ruger 10/22 every 5-10 rounds i have FTE / stovepipe
when i dry fire it, pulling back the handle becomes harder
its a target model with SS bull barrel and its doing it with buttler creek 25 rnds mag and ruger 10 rnds mag
only around 500-700 rounds fired of dynapoint winchester

ive changed the extractor with titanium, polished tho bolt a bit and lightly sanded the paint inside the receiver, lightly polished the rod
even gotten worst since i changed the extractor

still having troubles, bought different ammo but didnt try them out yet so maybe thats the problem

my questions:

1) when you pull back the charging handle do you feel a harder part to pull back (mid pull becomes a little harder to pull)?

2) is it normal that the bolt is hitting directly on the barrel end metal on metal ?

thanks for the help

here is my 10/22

The charge handle should become stiffer after dry firing. When you cycle the bolt after dry firing, you are in fact resetting the hammer, and thus the extra resistance is the hammer spring. Yes, the bolt rests directly against the chamber face, that's normal, like all firearms. I suggest you clean the rifle, inspect all parts for wear and or damage. The aftermarket magazines must be seated properly and do not lean, touch, push, or otherwise interfere with them when firing. Dynapoint is a little on the weak side in my opinion, and a new or newer gun may need some more rounds to break it in.

check the depths of your scope rail screws. my takedown had issues with it as the screws provided seemed to be a tad too long. either the bolt would come into contact with them and not chamber a round, or if it did chamber, then it would not eject properly.

just pull the bolt back and have a look. The screw holes go all the way through the receiver, so if the screws are seated too deeply, you will be able to see them right away.

Thanks guys
Maybe it just need a break in with different ammo
Its cleaned, mag is tight,Screws do not interfere

i understand mid-pull halfway must be hammer cocking but after dry fire its stiffer from the start of pulling handle. a lot stiffer, unusualy hard to pull back
just wanted to know if this is normal

The resistance you feel is normal. When dry fired, the hammer is up and bearing on the back of the bolt hence the extra resistance as it is reset while you pull back on the charging handle. The resistance at mid point is when the bolt comes into contact with the hammer while it's set on the sear. Again, you are compressing the hammer spring. As for the FTE with the rotary mag; try cleaning the chamber good, clean and oil the action (don't forget to put a little oil on the ejection window side of the bolt and the underside of the bolt adjacent to the ejection window side, have a look at your action to see where these areas make contact), try hotter ammo and if all that doesn't work then radius the bolt and if the guide rod is rough then polish or replace it.

Break it in with CCI Mini Mags if you can. I use a Bore Snake when the chamber gets dirty.

couldnt find any CCI anywhere but waiting on boresnake i ordered

thanks supernova for the info one, less thing to worrry about
everything is really clean inside the action, rod is lightly polished but not mirror but doesnt seem to have rough spots
maybe there wasnt enough oil to help the moving parts
ill try different ammo, a bit more oil and report back
