Feral pigs in BC now fair game!

I thought it was lawful to remove any invasive animal in Canada. If it's not native you can kill it. If I read the law right I thought anyone could do it with out a license. just not in parks. They even ask people to remove certain plants if they see them in parks as well.
 
A couple of lines from the news release on MSN.ca

"The ministry says that by placing them on the "Schedule C" list of exempted animals, it hopes that hunters will help the province in reducing their numbers.

"While there are not many feral pigs in British Columbia, this is a proactive measure since once established feral pigs are extremely hard to eradicate," the statement said"

I smell bacon in the near future ...

No, in BC the animals have to be listed as a Schedule B or C animal, or have a scheduled hunting season, before you can kill them. That is why Sasquatch feels safe in the province as they are not hunt-able.

That article says that they are schedule c and that you require a hunting license. Schedule c requires no license, but schedule b does. I wonder which it is
 
I would have to think the ones editing the news release got it wrong.
Typo error and would check the official web site for updates.

The road out to Nazko before Honolulu Rd had some sightings in November 2012.
Then there has been rumor around Harrison for years but, have yet to see evidence of such.

Honolulu rd eh ....... that is my back yard ....... I'm going to have to go for a drive as soon as I can get my 4 wheeler out of the snowbank that is my backyard .

Several Schedule C animals, crows, cowbirds, and magpies, require a hunting licence unless you are shooting them on your own property. I assume pigs will be treated the same way.

Christina Lake for sure as they have been seen by people using hiking trails in that area. I would bet you could walk the abandoned rail line between Christina Lake and Castlegar and see them.

I just sent a email to a buddy in Castlegar to see if they have been seen in that area as they are reported to be in the Kootenays, just didn't say East or West Kootenays.

I wonder if the U.S. DNR is going to want us to pay a fee to hunt them the same as turkeys awhile ago, 'cause they originally came up from the states' LOL!!!
 
well hopefully you fellas out in BC can stumble across one like this
this one was shot last weekend in eastern sask

Find a pig farm and open the gate.
 
It was over 30 years ago that a fellow in the Harrison Lake area of BC released his pigs I understand it was a restaurant that went under.

My buddy and I hunted all over for them never once found them though.
