Norinco QBU-88

Not exactly. The dragunov is a named prohib. Not prohib'd as a full auto. Prohib'd by order in council. The RCMP didn't prohib it, the liberals did.

Thanks, never knew that. I love this forum, learn something new every day!
Still sucks that it's prohib. Stupid Canadian gun laws, seriously, prohibiting a semi-auto 30 caliber long gun?!?
As far as I've researched, there were only 100 Dragunovs officially sold to the North American market. We'd have to settle for the Norc clones... The rarity of the SVD has driven the price up to more than $20,000 and even the Romanian knock-offs are $5-$6k.

Because the dragunov is a named prohib, any variant is also prohibited. Norc clones would be prohib'd because of the OIC.

Actually, the Dragunov is a named prohibited UNDER variants of the AK47.

HOWEVER, the Dragunov (SVD's) are not AK variants. The PSL is.

You know how we always say that the people who put together the firearms act had absolutely no idea about firearms in general? Yeah, this is a good example.

^^^ Ya. Listed, by name, under the AK list, as a named variant.

The list doesn't speak to "mechanical" variations. It was a list of guns that looked like the ak. That is why the Mitchell Arms AK22 is on their as a named prohibited AK, and as a consequence why the AP80 got prohib'd (identical to the AK22).

Wow, so there are legal grounds to re-classify the SVD as NOT an AK?

How does one formulate a legal challenge?

Could CanadaAmmo comment on whether or not they are looking at bringing these in?
They said they would "maybe" do it back in September.
Sorry to bother, I'd just really dig one of these :D

I second this

Well back on topic....

I sure hope that the QBU works better than my T97. Nothing worse than expensive disapointments. Maybe I was just unlucky and got one that was made in Jamaica, it loved jammin' and there's nothing more anoying than a bolt-partially-forward stoppage while that roadside coyote starts running away.

QBU-88 for $3000 made by Norinco?
Hope that's not an acronym for Quickly Becomes Useless.

The reviews by guys who own them/owned them were rather positive from what I've seen.
As is the problem with Canadian gun owners, we aren't nearly as Youtubey as our Southern brothers.
Hence why I'd like to get my mitts on one to do a proper video on every aspect of it.

Please do, I've had a run of bad luck buying Norincos. The only one I have that's decent is my M4. My M305 had a few glitches, but works ok now. A full review on the QBU would be nice to see.

I'm a Chinese. Don't buy it. It's not accurate. Our soldiers call it 88散 (88 shotgun,散 means spread out), without tons of adjustment accuracy is worse than a Type 95 with an scope.

The reason why they call it 88散 is because the scope is made by Pearl River Optronics who tried to cut corners. This made the scope extremely unreliable, so the government stopped doing business with them. With no government purchase, they went under. There was even news of the workers protesting the loss of their jobs, which is quite hilarious as they probably still think we have a chairman named Mao.

I was informed by Tactical Imports that somebody else in Canada had secured imports with Norinco for the QBU-88, so they weren't going to pursue it again.
Who is to be the next importer remains to be seen. Perhaps they are waiting for the current issues to blow over.
