has anyone got a pietta 1873 single action 45 long colt revolver just wonder what there like ???? had one in my hand yesterday very well balanced and priced 434.00 plus tax give me some info if you can .. thanks hound13
 
I have the "other" brand of SAA (Uberti) but would not hesitate to buy a Pietta, the recoil is about the same as .45ACP. I found the cost of factory ammo (aprox. $1.00/Rnd) prohibitive so I got into reloading, I cast the same bullet for .45 Colt and 45ACP.
 
I've one with the long barrel and its a nicely sorted gun, other than the trigger just having one long creep until it lets go. Everyone who shoots it has a hoot, but my new favourite is a Uberti 58 Remington conversion. More heft, less flip, much better trigger, and a tack driver. 44WCF though rather than 45Colt.

I'd have no problem buying another Pietta, however.

Just keep an eye on the frame screws. Mine tend to work loose now and then. Bit of blue would sort them.
 
I have a few Ruger Blackhawks and they are not that much more money. I have one Ruger that shoots .45ACP and .45Colt. The .45Colt can be loaded up to .44 Mag range if you wanted to, so called Ruger only loads as well. Some .45Colts were .454 diameter, many are .452 inch. I think the lead for the .45Colt has a little ridge at the top so it can be crimped at that point. This lead wouldn't be good for .45ACP as it is not crimped. If your reloading .45 Colt you may want the 4 die set instead of three die set, the forth die is the crimp die. The .45Colt has a fairly strong report, you will think 9mm is for girls after that!
 
I have some uberti's and Pietta's in 45 colt. They work great. But they are not something you shoot hot ammo in. I also own 357 single action but they get a steady diet of 38 sp. You won't go wrong with the Pietta I have a Uberti in 45 colt Birds head grip. You don't want to shoot it with hot ammo. My pietta is a first gen. with a 7.5 in barrel. It's a beautifull gun. Case harden. The grips are small on single action. You can buy Cowboy action bullets for your 45. I shot Cowboy action for a while. Work got into it so haven't been doing much. I shot a Uberti and a Pietta they worked great. But let me tell you my friend. When you pull that 45 Long Colt out of the box and put it in your revolver Well 250 gr of sold punch. LOL It is a large bullet. I shoot a 454 Casull Flame thrower and then shoot a 45 colt That I loaded with Trail Boss for my BFR. My friend buy a 45 long Colt you will never regret it.

Kinda' partial to the Rugers as well.

Exactly. And nobody will ever argue with the durability of the Ruger.

In fact, I happen to know a guy who is selling a couple of Bisley Blackhawks, one of which will be very close in price to the after-tax price of the new Pietta (depending on which province you're in)... ;)
