Hodgdon Overhauls Reloading Data Center

I find my best loads always seem to be a couple grains over their "maximum load" without signs of pressure.

Is their max load more of a CYA load for them?

Your gun isn't the same gun as what they tested their loads in so it's hard to say. By the time you see pressure signs you're already past max pressures.

+1 for the old site was better. I liked that you could see all the data all at once. Was better for seeing what powders had better velocity/pressure etc.

All you are seeing is that pressure testing gear is more common now than then.

I wonder if they are using custom built testing barrels with tighter chambers and different bore dimensions to achieve higher pressures with lower powder loads. In 'commercial' rifles, those chamber pressures not typically obtainable(?). However, I do find that the Barnes manual to be more reflective of what I've achieved in loading. My 2 cents...

Tools like this are no doubt intended by Hodgdon to serve as a simple aid to help their customers decide which Hodgdon product to buy. No need to get all British about this. If you need a reloading manual its a simple matter to just go buy one. ;)

I think lawyers dictated the change to the website... they dumbed down most of the max loads... take a look at 7X57 loads... the max loads are way down from the old site.

Thank god I printed off all the data for my rifles. I'll have to look at them and compare to the new site.
