22 lr ammo shortage

I didn't use to worry about 22 ammo just shot what I had in hand. But with me picking up a couple of new 22's and finding ammo to be spotty (if you are looking for something more specific that a gun likes) I have taken to buying a bit extra and socking it away. Nothing like some guys with cases and cases, I only have a few bricks, but hey if you can't be part of the solution might as well be part of the problem!!

I always have bought cases of 5000 for the 22 LR, you used to get lot bigger discount than you get these days. If you shoot even 100 in a trip to the range once a week it won’t last you a year.

I was at one store who a few weeks ago told me they wasn’t going to be any more CCI Standard Velocity 22 LR this year so I bought the last 5 boxes of 100 at $10 each. Last time I bought them they were $3.00 for a box of 50 which was a while ago as I usually buy bulk (boxes of 5000). Well I was at a local Canadian Tire and they had them for $3.99 a box of 50 so I scooped up some more. While I go back into the first store who sells them at $10 and guess what, they have 5 boxes left again and it’s the last for the year. I kindly told him that what he said three weeks ago and somehow they got more. He goes red and stops talking to me and moves onto another customer. I would give the stores name here but they are a sponsor so I don’t want to get banned for this.
I am sure there is a shortage but there are some people that appear to be taking advantage of the situation.

this is s very common trick amongst many retailers when there is a shortage. they have a lot of ammo but only put a little out at a time with higher prices. i could name 7 independents that do that.

I went to Wholesale sports in Langley and they didn't have one box of any 22. They said they were not expecting any. I went to Walmart and they had only a couple of boxes. Canadian Tire had lots so I picked up 2 500 rd boxes for $31 each. It's still out there but sporatic.

Canadian Tire on King George north has 1000 round boxes as does CT just off of Grandview in Vancouver... they had lots $52 a box

Weird, there is billions at the kamloops store.

I just got 1000 rounds of M-22 for $50 and my LGS had those 'bucket o bullets' and other bulks as well. Not sure on the quality of the buckets but they were $80. Looking at ordering a case of federal, as it seems to run in everything I have.

I picked up two boxes of 500 Remington Thunderbolts yesterday at the gun show, they cost $30.00 each. The vendor said that it was harder to come by for him than in the past. Other vendors didn't seem to have as much around as they used to either.

I checked out some reviews on Remington Thunderbolt, weren't so good. I bought one brick for $21. From what I have read in the comments, seems like retailers are playing a bit of the switcheroo. I am guessing the shortages happen in Spring? When more shooters are looking to buy ammo?

Logic says yes... Maybe one manufacturer might suffer a supply problem... broken assembly line.. etc.... But all the manufacurers at once...?

So everybody goes bullet crazy and buys buckets at a higher price fearing a shortage...

It seems like we need shovles to deal with all the bull.

Everyone talking about buying M-22 be careful as there was a major recall on the ammo because some of it was found to be doublecharged and the 1000 round packs don't have a Lot # to check off the winchester website..

that would be a big surprise!!! doublecharged now people will run out and buy more...lol,

I picked up three 525 boxes of Federal at CT in South Burnaby today. I left one box for the next lucky fellow. Seems to be a few boxes show up on the shelves randomly from time to time. Their online inventory system is worthless - it said no stock as I stared at 4 boxes on the other side of the glass.

Hey there, the 1000 rd packs do have a number to check. It is on the inside top flap of the 500 rd boxes inside.

i cant say theres a heck of alot of choices around my neck of the woods for 22lr ammo, the bulk bricks are getting tough, i bought a brick of blazers today, but also checked 2 walmarts no 555's at either and actually they had nothing in stock in bulk at all, and its been like that for a bit now.

.22LR magnums!

Where did you find Blazers?

Caledonia CT had Federal 525 bulk packs, Win 333, and Dyna points (shoot better than expected).

Shooters Choice had a good selection including affordable bricks of CCI Mini Mags (in the 100 round containers), bulk swamp people pack, and then some other selection.

Al Simmons had some as well when I was there (month ago or so now).
