So I'm torn between these two rifles. What are the pros and cons of each? Does the 10.5 require a heavier or lighter buffer? I've held the dd v5 and it's really nice. I've held a 10.5 lmt and it won the cool factor. But what do you guys think for carbine courses and competition.

One main advantage I see is I can take The v5 state side.

I'm really torn but want one.
Are sbrs more of a headache?

What type of matches do you want to shoot? Shorties are tons of fun but wont be making many long range shots with one.

I say buy the V5 and build an MK18 upper later on. :)

I agree. I got a DDM4V7 as my first AR and to get my feet wet. I have since found most of my AR shooting occurs inside of 200m. Although I don't think I will sell the V7, I am currently building a whole new 11.5". If I find the V7 becomes a safe queen, on the chopping block she goes. Alternatively, I could have just built an upper. For an extra couple hundred dollars, I have a whole other gun though! Start long and keep shaving length until to get to a point where the trade-offs are good for you.

I would wait a couple more months and get the MilSPec+ one in CeraKote brown. Comes with better pistol grip and stalk material, too.

Well if you do more shooting at distance, then the 16" will be a better all around option. If you do a lot of 100 and under, then I'd opt for the mk18. The mk18s are damn ###y too. honeltly it more comes down to personal preference/ what you would rather spend money on building later. You will be satisfied with both.

And this is why everyone needs more than one AR. :)

If you decide to go with the 16" barrel, I would choose the V7 LW over the V5.

1. The weight savings of the tubular forend offset the extra rail space for most purposes.
2. The "government" profile barrel weighs more than a pencil barrel with no real advantage, as the barrel is only heavier at the front, where it doesn't do much good.

I looked at this as well when I got my V5 (regular barrel) but did some checking...somehow the V7 (modular float rail) weights more than the V5 (DDM4 rail). 6.54lbs vs 6.44lbs respectively as per the DD website.

Hmmmm, the OMEGA X RAIL™ 12.0, RIFLE on the DDM4V5 weighs 15.3 oz
the MFR 12" weighs 14.2 Oz according to the DD website.
If you are referring to overall rifle weight, It is the heavy rail pieces that come on the V7. But when slick, the V7 is lighter as above
