Tv sport hunting shows

Interesting how hunters spend so much time judging other hunters that do things differently from themselves.....I'm sure there is a point to it....so far it's eluded me. I'm happy that people hunt....I could care less how they react after the kill. It's a pretty personal thing for everyone. At least summer will soon be here and people can use up some of that energy yelling at the kids to get off their lawn!

Every time I down a duck or deer or whatever, in my mind and sometimes in a whisper I say " right on" or "yesssss!" It is the accomplishment of the harvest. (kill) I don't enjoy killing animals in the direct sense of killing. I DO enjoy hunting and shooting and harvesting animals. ( I don't really like the word harvest (in relation to hunting) but it does describe what we do as hunters) As for fist pumping and high fives that is the result of the young generation carrying over organized sports habits. Just look at how hunters are now "athletes" and under armour gear is everywhere. This is US driven marketing and "bigger, better, faster" attitudes that in Canada until recently we were ignorant of. ( a good thing)

I'm in the same boat as you, the only show I like watching is Meateater. Most shows are over commercialized and insensitive to the quarry they hunt.

steve rinella, and his show meateater are both prime examples of a hunter who is willing to show humility, and insight. his books are of the same vane. love his show... and respect his conviction.

If it's so personal why the need to show it on TV.

I am also a big fan of Meat Eater, and envy his opportunities. I prefer to hunt alone, primarily for the peace and quiet of being outside. It would make for some pretty dull TV. Right or wrong, it's just my opinion. The hunt is, as I see it, the connection to the food that I eat. Me and my quarry in a timeless cycle.

Cheers

Exactly, and he does it without telling you what brand of gun, ammo, boots, binoculars, calls etc. etc. he uses. The rest of these shows are barely one step above infomercials.

I would watch that genuine show of emotion and excitement all day rather than 5 minutes of a highly edited and contrived 30 minute shill show like Outdoor Quest.
Totally agree with you. Many talk on both sides of their face (hypocrisy), they quote they don't care how hunters react, however show it on television. Moreover, to target a child as being disgusting and showing lack of remorse. Some people need to mature.

I like Meat Eater. I feel like Steven Rinella comes across sincere and I think he is being honest in his hunts. In several episodes you see him not take a shot because its not ethical, you see him come home empty handed and you see it when he makes a mistake. I really enjoy his show and I've read one of his books which I also enjoyed.

Some people don't display their emotions, or feel any need to share their feelings. Some just aren't very expressive.

or only to say the fun is over let s start the work now .... that part is not very well shown on those tv shows .... most of the time those shows are more for selling products, hunts etc. or self promotion than really nothing else ...

Actually, I'd suspect the bulk are made because it's someone's job and they are trying to make a living so they can feed their kids and pay their mortgage....pretty much like any other job I suspect.

depending on which side of the fork you re XX you may be right, but most of those shows and i'm happy that those guys are making a living are worth nothing will the quality of images, the story ... because you sell it to a broadcaster doesn't mean it is great ... and this is what is about ...

you can defend it and I understand why but doesn't mean I ll agree with your shows or articles or which outfitter you promote despite being convicted of poaching. I don't think I have to go farther.

This isnt anything new, and not TV related. Are you telling me that "ol' British chaps" on safari in 1922 didnt let a whoop of excitement after downing a lion? How about the little Canadian kid with his first Cooey rifle after downing a bunny for dinner in the 30s? Hell, the first time a caveman rammed his spear down a cave bear's throat he probably let out a victory howl.

Excitement, and physical demonstrations of it transcend TV and time.

The guys who show no more emotion killing an animal then taking their morning dump are the guys who bother me.

Just tryin' to get paid givin' the people what they want eh. That pretty much shows just how much respect there is for the animals when the camera is off.

Quote: "Promote outfitter convicted of poaching"
Nothing surprises me these days or with certain individuals. People will throw their values and morals out the window, if they ever had any, for monetary gain.
