Well, I passed my PWT 1 on the C7A2 today on the 25M range. Whoopee! So I thought I'd take what I learned, and see how my TAVOR would do running in the same qualification run.

25 Paces (Hopefully around 25 Meters)
Wearing BEW, Helmet, and Gas mask.
Elcan 3.4 Power Optical sight.
Tavor Gen 2 5.56mm 1/7 Barrel, 18.5 inches
PMags, and a mix of Metal Mags.

Ammo:
reloaded .223 Rem brass with a Hornady 62 Grain FMJ using Higginsons Surplus WC735.
50 grain soft point hanloaded, hitting the plates @ 50m no problem.
55 grain PMC M193 (good)
62 Grain C77 (SS109 type) (better)
62 Grain Belgium original SS109 (best)

I was really happy with the feel of the Tavor in all the PWT1 shooting positions. Prone, Prone gas mask, sitting, kneeling, standing. It was easy to hold, comfortable and very stable in all positions. I have mine set up for lefty fire. Overall it's a 10 out of 10 for me. I'll go back and try this same shoot with the M4 and the HBAR and see if the results are similar.

The CF should start looking into Bullpup rifles for the next Small Arms replacement Project. The TAR21 demonstrates ease of maintenance, simple disassembly, consistent reliability with 50 to 62 grain .223 commerical and military ammunition. Reliability with all of my handloaded ammunition. Adaptable to left handed operation with the swapping out of the bolt and re configuration of ejection port and cocking handle if desired. Piston operated gas system. (Minimal cleaning compared to the direct impingment system of the AR15 type)Compact and efficient reinforced polymer design with an overall length of 27 5\8 inches for Canadian non restricted version. Commonality with NATO STANAG magazines using standard ammunition including M193 and M855\SS109 NATO. I fired a 200 yard 10 round group using M193 55 Gain FMJ and kept them all on a 8.5x11 piece of paper. So a 1/7 Barrel can easily stabilize the lighter bullet. The PMag Gen 3 is just awesome. MIL STD 1913 rails for optical equipment. Chrome lined, hammer forged bore and chamber utilising the standard NATO 1/7 twist rate. Integrated folding BUIS apature rear and tritium front sight post. This rifle is just awesome.

The advertised effective range is 300M. I would say it's probally closer to 400m with the 18.5 inch barrel, but I have not fired it at those ranges yet.

I think the C7/AR is getting dated, and is easily getting surpassed by more modern designs. Don't get me wrong I love my AR's but this TAVOR gives them a run for their money. Anyone who is getting into the "Black Rifles" would be wise to take a look at this non-restricted option before committing to a restricted AR and ATT and having to belong to a gun club to shoot it.

I always wanted to try the level three shoot run down with my Tavor.

All because of the fact that by the time I arrive at the berms all the targets have dropped already since I am so fat and slow.

Built for recoil,, that's me.:p

I will start by saying : nice review, I wish people wrote detailed reviews like that all the time

I sure hope the CF never gets into this bullpup hype. I'd rather see the army actually getting better boots or chets rigs than new guns :p Those things are f-ugly and are one size fit all gun... If you're tall, short, long armed, short armed well you're fawked. The AR platform isn't getting dated, our C7 are aging and need to go, only to be replace by at least all C8s. Just came back from Norway, wow that HK416 feel solid.

I'm a shorter guy and used the "short" stock on my C7 when I was in. My Tavor fits me perfectly despite its longer LOP, and it balances so nicely.
Definitely agree about the chest rigs though, those Tac-vests suck the big one..

Personally, I think the CF should adopt light sabres and X-Wings, because those are proven to be effective against Sith and Death Stars.

Good review man, but I don't think the CF is going to switch from it's standard pattern any C7 rifles anytime soon. And I wouldn't call them outdated, not when there's always C8's or C7A2's (and probably A3's, A4's, A5's, etc), although I have yet to shoot or own (yet) a Tavor, so I can't really compare the two out of experience.

But I agree with some of the newer posts, in that it would be nice to be issued good kit for a change, or at least be given a kit allowance or something, or even put up several rigs/boots/gloves/puffy jackets/thermals/etc up on Logisticorp so we can buy stuff with our annual points allowance. I heard that brought up by some high ranking dudes at a town hall meeting a while ago, so fingers crossed.

Hey man I'm all for lightsabers an x-wing fighters for the military as well. I'm in the middle of watching the Clone wars on Netflix so I'm in full agreement. I'm just saying that before the Canadian Military/Government and goes out again and wastes a whole pile of money upgrading the C7 in another of the"Mid life upgrade programs" from C7A2 to the A3,4 and 5 ext. model and cheaping out by putting on useless parts like the cheaply made and unreliable ambi "Crocker cocker" cocking handle on an already weak point of the rifle. The economy priced "Triad" rail instead of what was needed like Knight's RAS/RIS system for attaching mission essential equipment. Hopefully the LCMM will actually look at modern assault rifle designs before throwing away that kind of money.

Do you know how many people would maim themselves with light sabres? Troops can't walk in the woods without getting sticks in the eye.

Any "new" kit the non-cansof units in the CF get will be garbage because the CF needs to "buy Canadian" which means which ever ####ty company that offers the product at the lowest price (quality be damned) will get it.

Interesting review. Good but interesting.

Adopt a bull pup style service rifle? To keep this civil, all I'm gonna say is no. For a plethora of reasons.

Useless cocking handle? It's to be operated by your support hand, not having to remove your shooting hand from the pistol grip.

Stretching the Tavors legs today.

100M and 200M shoot. No failures of any kind. I'm a little disappointed in the Elcan. I thought for sure it would be able to hold tighter groups. I guess you can't expect to much from a combat optic. My Tavor fired almost 400 rounds today. Runs as smooth as glass. I am noticing a small nick in the case just under the shoulder. Probably the case deflector touching it.

Shooter’s Ability. The soldier must be able to achieve a 100 mm grouping at 100 m (optical sight) or 150 mm grouping at 100 m (iron sights), before zeroing can be effective.

Canadian Forces Standards. Optical sight 5 rd grouping @ 100 Meters
a. Prone (Infantry)—100 mm. 10cm
b. Prone (OAS)—150 mm. 15cm
c. Sitting (Infantry)—150 mm. 15cm
d. Sitting (OAS)—200 mm. 20cm
e. Kneeling Supported (Infantry)—150 mm. 15cm
f. Kneeling Supported (OAS)—200 mm. 20cm
g. Standing (Infantry/OAS)—250 mm. 25cm

Sniper Rifle 50mm 5cm

This one is a 5 round grouping @100M using standard surplus military ammo. Elcan optical sight.

This group is using original Belgium Military SS109. (What the C77 Ball is patterned after.)

C77 Ball out to 200 M

SS109 out to 200M I found this ammo to be more accurate then the C77 ammo.

And a few rapid fire 10 round groupings at 100M. They were shot one after another. Pretty funny that they are close in size. To bad I did not have any more SS109 to try out. I'm positive the group size would have been smaller using the better ammo.

And a Remington 700 PSS for comparison @ 200 Meters. 3 round groups. 175 BTHPM Sierra Matchkings using Surplus WC735 Powder. Neck sized cases.
