Everywhere I look the lead projectiles are almost the same cost as plated. I want to reduce my costs but don't want to cast them myself. Does anyone know of a good cheaper source? 45 acp, 45 colt.
Thx

Air Guns Plus in Prince Albert, SK has lead 45 ACP SWC in 200 gr and 170 gr. I can't remember the price but they sell by the bucket and it's cheap enough to not warrant casting yourself. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post their contact info but just Google them.

I personally hate swc there great if you wanna learn how to clear jam's lol

I find that if theres a cast bullet with the same price as the plated bullet form a different manufacturer the cast lead bullet will always be of a higher quality. I only get cast or jacketed tend to stay away from plated unless there on sale and cheaper then cast but that's my 2 cents take it how you want.

Never had any luck with 200 grain SWC in a 1911....can't get them to feed, if you really want to save money casting your own bullets is the best way to do it. If you have a safe place to do it check in to it.
I use a cheap single burner hot-plate from Canadian Tire ($25.00) a stainless pot and a stainless ladle (about $5.00 from Value Village) and a $30.00 Lee mold.
The high cost of shipping means I am stuck casting my own but it is kind of fun cranking out a batch of nice shiny Boolits.

This is off topic but you guys started it.

Both of my 1911s, an old K numbered Remington and a new Taurus A1, will chamber and shoot any style of bullet without issues.

A little bit of judicious and careful polishing at the top of the feed ramp and barrel mate area will make jamming almost non existent.

I have loaded seven different nose shapes into one magazine on several occasions to prove this to non believers. Any good smith, familiar with the 1911 platform can do the job quickly.

Look up Cactus Plains. They are in sask. email and ask them if anyone near you resells their stuff, or if they come to any gun shows in your area. I buy them for $85/1000 all in at my range.

I spend most of my time stooped over a lead pot casting my rifle slugs. It's just not worth casting pistol bullets unless maybe with one of those lee 6 gang tumble lube molds

x2, the barrel on my 1911 has been throated and polished and I have absolutely no problems in using 200 grain LSWC's in my 1911 since I bought my first on in '94.
