What's the ideal distance we should be zero'ing at?

For shooting these matches 35m down to 10m, I zero at 25m and hold center all the way through, both rifle (16" AR with aimpoint pro) and pistol.

The 5-ring on a figure 11 is almost 4" tall and on the figure 14 it's similar. No need to touch your sights or think about where you are going to hold.
 
A 50/200m zero works pretty well. You just need to shift your point of aim, and with a 4x optic it is easy to see each hit as it happens.

More target turners are on the list but a lack of time and parts on order is holding them up.
 
Is there any chance to fire a few rounds before the session starts? My rifle developed loose bolts on the scope rail and my zero is a bit off.
