Yah but ....
The criteria for "assault rifle" in the US includes a pistol grip, multi round magazine capability, muzzle brake, barrel shroud and other f__k-nasty things that make it look evil.
That includes rifles like the Ruger 10/22 dressed up in after-market items.
There is a video out there of a supporting Congresswoman who was asked to define "barrel shroud", why it was on the list and why that made a rifle dangerous. She couldn't, but was sure that the people who drew up the list knew why.
Our wing nut liberal gun haters are just as out-to-lunch. Doesn't take a Carbine Williams or a police forensics lab to make ANY semi-auto go full auto.
What OIC gave the RCMP authority to s__t can the CZ 58 and Swiss arms rifles? Parliament had nothing to do with it, at least not the current sitting.

The XCR is probably one of the safest black rifles out there as far as reclassifications are concerned. It's an original design (although it borrows elements from various platforms) so it can't be construed as a variant and it would take some serious alterations to make the civillian versions go full auto.
The only way these could be threatened is if an unfriendly government were to update the prohib list by OIC.
