760 remington 7mm express ????

I have a 760 rem in 280 and am now looking out for one designated as 7mm express. Have had no luck to date. I have seen them in other remington models. Some guys say they exist in the 760s and others tell me I'm dreaming. Can anyone confirm the existance of the 7mm express designation in the 760s???

I think they are dreaming since they are not listed as ever being produced in a 760. Cheers
 
But that is not what he is asking if I read it right. I have a 7600 that is stamped 7mm express or 280

The 760 were stamped 280 I never seen a 760 stamped 7mm express only is that not what he is asking???
 
I once owned a 700 factory marked 7mm-06. The only one I ever saw. It was actually chambered for the .280 Remington.
 
I have read that the 7mm express designation was used at one point and then switched back to the 280 designation. Due to confusion with other 7mm cartridges. Also the use of the 7mm express designation was intended as a marketing gimmick. This is why I ask. I collect 760s and do not want to miss out on the possibility of finding one if they do actually exist.

Ever heard of a 760 in 222 Rem Mag?

I have either a Rifle/Handloader magazine that the author claimed to have had?
 
Ok IMO lets make it simple

The .280 Remington was introduced in 1957
Initially, the .280 was chambered in the Remington Model 740 semi automatic rifle. To function smoothly in the auto loader.
By the mid 1960's the .280 was available in all of Remington's action configurations however the cartridge still failed to gain attention. By the mid 1970's production of .280 ammunition almost ceased completely
In 1979, Remington increased the powder charges of .280 factory ammunition and re-named the .280 cartridge as the 7mm Express Remington in an effort to bring attention to this newly improved performance. During the name change initial confusion resulted in one production run of barrels having 7mm06 stamped on them. Over time, due to confusion between the 7mm Express Remington and the 7mm Remington Magnum, the cartridge finally went back to it's original name, the .280 Remington.
Ok the 760's in 280 were produced between 1958 and 1967 so it was impossible for a 760 to be stamped 7mm06 or express since that change didnot come until 1979
My 7600 is stamped with both but it is a 88 the year the 280 returned in 7600

I dab in these pumps also but not seriously and I don't have a 257 :(

Never heard of 222 mag as factory chambering. But Grice put out a number of custom 760 and 7600s so anything is possible.

No grice plays with 7600 not 760 to my knowledge and not in 58/61 for sure Once the military didnot accept the 222 mag as far as remington was concerned it died in favor of the 223

He tells in 1962 a buddy was trading in a 22 WMR and found a "factory original Remington Model 760 pump. It wasn't until years later that he learned how rare it was"

I have a 67/68 700 BDL sporter in 222 Mag. :)

Cool. Cannot read it for some reason but that is OK
My guess a one of remington custom shop creation since there is no mention of it in the original regular catalogs
But the year 1962 would probally be the time if someone did have a 222 converted since rem stopped production of the 222 in 61 and didnot start the 223 until 64 so there was a 2 year window of no factory 222 or 223 in 760

Great info. I thought the confusion about the express and 280 started in the first couple years of production. I find that I am still wondering about this designation because of conflicting info gathered on the net. What you are saying about 79 makes sense but I am sure that I read about these two options in the early 760s. Maybe my addiction to the 760s has clouded my judgment??????
