760 remington 7mm express ????

The cartridge was only named 7mm Express for two years, so there's no guarantee that a 760 was every stamped to reflect this short term name change.

Yes you are right a very short time Don't know the exact months but it wasn't even 2 years long from what remington says . Came out in 79 and was renamed back to 280 in 1980
That being said they stamped many many barrels with both 7mm express or 280 on the same side for many many years after some In the 90's I have seen
Cheers

FYI - I got my info (two years) off of the internet, just like everyone else, I suppose. Then, in my opinion, I said, "there's no guarantee", so if you are trying to correct what I said, you have wasted your time.

Just making a comment that is all nothing more nor is any firearm discussion a waste of time to me . Internet is only one source of info for me since I have over 50 years of remington stuff gathered with tons of original literature. Sorry to upset you but it is common for us with A type personalities it seems. To me impossible for a 760 to be stamped originally since the last one in 280 was made in 1967 and the 7mm express was implemented in 1979 but that is my opinion based on the literature I have
to each their own I say
In the end the op got what he needed so all is good
Cheers

I owned a model 4 ( 7400/742 ) that was chambered for 7mm rem. express (aka as .280 rem.) and I know they had a model 6 ( 7600/760 ) but I don't know whether they chambered it for the 7mm express!
